Notes
A great day at the crag with Rebel. Another visit to Palisade Head, but I'm not complaining, it's a good place.
Rebel gave me the option of a warm-up and I chose Danger High Voltage because I hadn't done it yet, felt good, you know, like an actual 5.8.
Rebel lead Rapprochement, 5.10b, maybe with a little more concern than usual due to some wet conditions, but he still cruised. I also got through it without much fuss (first time cleanly).
Rebel says I talked him into leading Don't Bring a Knife to a Gun Fight, but he was the one that brought it up last night, I just kept him honest. He took his time and talked about falling, but he never did and enthusiastically summited.
I had the option to follow him up or lead my own hardest pitch. I opted to lead, partly due to how much I would have had to carry up. We did have a delay with a mixup about the rope, but I was confident. The bottom half was pretty straightforward, just a prelude to the top crack. I felt confident but took longer than I'd like placing a few pieces. Finished with my legs more tired than my arms. But progress continues. Water Babies, 5.8.
Rebel had left 2 of my quickdraws on Gun Fight, 5.11b, so I guess it was up to me to retrieve them. It actually went really well, despite 3 falls, only 1 due to exhaustion really. Did the upper half clean just like Sunday, but obviously more tired.
Rebel flew up Hidden Treasure before giving me 1 last climb. Superior Crack was tempting, but I'll save it for another day. I chose Phantom Crack to give me 1 more attempt to surpass my past self. All the way to the bottom this time, up some simple slab. The crack was a battle and almost gave up a few times. I guess perseverance won as I topped out.
Likely the end of my outdoor climbing season. I think I can clearly say I climbed better at Palisade Head than this spring. Hard to say how I stack up at the gym or other crags, so I'll just leave it at that.
