--- Harder than I wanted this but I was dodging rocks, mud and puddles on these four dirt loops. Legs felt a bit heavy. ---

Mile splits: 8:41, 8:55 (17:36), 8:46 (26:22) and 2:00 (28:22) last 0.22 miles (9:05 pace)

Adjusted splits: 8:40, 8:54, 8:45 and 8:56 pace last 0.22 miles

Stopped off at Lake Murray on way home from work to run four laps around the Inner Dirt Loop. Not my favorite loop as there are a lot of rocks to dodge but I was hoping that it would be relatively dry. Changed in the parking lot at work, drove out there and stretched. Walked to the other side and could see that the Lake Murray loop down below was pretty wet. I knew one spot on the Inner Dirt Loop I might have to run through some water as it was a bottom of a little hill. If that was it, that would be fine. Walked over to the starting point and was off.

Like yesterday, I felt kind of awkward in the beginning. I was moving quick though and was at like 47 or 48 seconds at 0.10 miles and 2:04 at 0.25 miles. Slowed down after and tried to get in a groove, but it was hard as my head was staring down at the ground trying not to roll my ankle. Made turn for home about 0.40 miles and then could see some mud and puddles. Did my best to dodge some but some places I just had to go through. Not ideal and much worse than I thought it was going to be. The little hill part wasn’t that bad though as I was able to step on a rock and steeple over to the other side. Slowed down a little bit each loop but picked up the pace a little on the last one. For the 0.76-0.77-mile splits, I went 6:41, 6:46, 6:47 and 6:41 for 3.06 miles in 26:55 (8:48 pace). Then I added on a little more to get back to my car.

Altogether it was 3.22 miles in 28:22 (8:49 pace). Happy to get the run over with. I just don’t like running this little loop. Too many rocks and a little harder than running the other side (Outer Dirt Loop). For some reason, Strava says 0 feet of elevation. That’s a load of shit. Not saying it’s hilly but it’s not flat, especially from about 0.50-to-0.65 miles. A few small rolling hills in there. I worked a little too hard for what I wanted too. Probably wanted closer to 9:00 pace than 8:49 pace. My heart rate was actually higher than yesterday and that was with a big difference in pace (3.22 mi. at 8:49 pace, 158 AHR today and 3.50 at 8:14 pace, 156 yesterday). Still, I will probably only run this once a month once I’m in shape and usually as recovery or easy runs, so I can deal with it if it breaks up the monotony of the loops I run. Looking forward to a morning run tomorrow to close out a five-day stretch.
