Nebo + NOAB

Notes

--- Ran the 3.04-mile Nebo loop (usually 3.06) 2:18 faster than the last time on Feb. 17 and the fifth fastest out of the 32 times I’ve run it. Then out (1:51) to Normal and back (1:44). Legs felt good and right hamstring held up fine. This was a really good run for me right now. Nice drizzle and some wind the whole run. ---

Mile splits: 8:45, 8:25 (17:10), 7:39 (24:49) and 3:59 (28:48) last 0.50 miles (7:58 pace)

Adjusted splits: 8:15, 8:20, 7:57 and 7:54 pace last 0.50 miles

Had a good one today. Ended up going a bit later than I wanted and ran into some drizzle and wind, but it would’ve been worse later. Planned on running the 3.06-mile Nebo loop and Normal Out-and-Back for about 3.51 miles. Was worried about my right hamstring going in, especially on the downhill finish. Wasn’t hydrated enough (proof was in the pee) but I had a better stretch than my last few runs. Really tried to work that right hamstring, but probably still didn’t do good enough. Once again not running with a chest strap heart rate monitor since I left it in Orlando. Seeing if I want to just go with the wrist HRM, which I’ve heard is not as accurate (usually much lower).

Felt a little awkward the first few minutes. Just kind of clunky but was at 2:05ish at 0.25 miles. Knew the first 1.60 miles were mostly uphill with a few flat spots and one little downhill. Was at 2:17ish at 0.50 miles, so settling in nicely. Didn’t look again at my Garmin until the mile mark. Did well up University still feeling good, taking the right on La Mesa Blvd. Actually did well up this too. It went by quick and wasn’t too tough like normal as I hit the first mile in 8:45 (8:15 adjusted). Knew that was quick as the last time I ran this on Feb. 17 the first mile was 9:31. Felt good still going through the first part of town. Took the right on Nebo and felt that wind right there. Did well through there as well, even taking the uphill kind of hard at the end of the last hard part. Was at about 13:04 at 1.50 miles (8:43 pace). Just had to get up to last little uphill (1.60 miles) and almost the rest of the way would be either downhill or flat. Usually I dog it there but right away I was already at 7:50 pace on the Garmin. Felt good on the downhill stretch to get back down to La Mesa Blvd. Took the left there, hitting the 2-mile mark in 17:10 (8:35 pace) following an 8:25 (8:20 adjusted). Got up the last little uphill and started to pick it up on the downhill. Sprinted across Normal so I didn’t get stuck at the light and then started moving on University. Kept seeing myself in the 7:20-7:30s, maybe some 7:40s at times. Felt pretty good. Was opening it up but not going crazy as I was still mindful of my right hamstring (not injured or sore, just tight). This stretch went by fast all the way to Lowell. In my head I had to run a 7:50 which was doable. But I seemed to be going much faster. Hit the 3-mile mark kind of late in 24:49 after a 7:39 (7:57 adjusted) and ran the last 0.04 miles in 23 seconds (9:41 pace). Definitely got robbed as I checked and my average through 32 runs is 3.057 miles. Anyway, I ran Nebo 2:18 faster than the last time I ran this on Feb. 17 and it was my fifth-fastest time overall on this loop out of the 32 times.

Then kept right on going to run to Normal and back. Didn’t feel the best on the way out (1:51), but as soon as I turned back I was already in the 7:50s and ran it back in 1:44. Went out-and-back in 3:35 (7:48 pace).

Altogether it was 3.50 miles in 28:48 (8:14 pace) (8:09 adjusted). Much quicker than I thought going in and my second-fastest adjusted run of the year so far.
