Jacked Up Key Long Run Workout. Jog a 15:00 minute route down to Russell/Cascade hill. Six hill sprints. Another 15:00 minutes of jogging over to the track. Walk a turn, stride a straight, repeat, then finish priming by hitting a 200. Turnover topping in the 5:4Xs this morning.

Workout is 3 x 1200 with 400 jogs. As I'm getting ready to start, old lady (70s, maybe even 80) with cane comes walking towards track with unleashed mutt/collie mix. Comes running immediately towards me. Looks friendly, but tail not wagging, so pull my Halt! and shout it down. Track is posted "No Dogs" for a reason.

Sure enough, first lap of first rep, thing cuts me off and runs right under my feet. Pissed. Left me alone on next two passes, but had my attention enough to distract from task. Averaged 6:14 pace on rep one, but unfocused and uneven with arms and legs flying in half a dozen different directions.

Made it through almost two laps of second rep with no issues. Under much better control. Approaching band director's stand next to track where I'd left my water and saw dog sniffing at my hand-held. Shout it away as I pass. Feel my heartbeat soar and my blood pressure start to boil. Livid. Totally lose control of rep. Finish with an average pace of 6:24. See my time and say, "Screw it...what's the point." Stop, turn around, grab my crap and leave.

At best was going to screw up my aerobic and/or motor pathways. At worst, was going to injure myself. Love dogs. Despise inconsiderate assholes no matter how old they are.

Extended my cool down to 30:00+ minutes of jogging. Two quarters, three dimes, a nickel, and nineteen pennies.
