Temp 82 Winds Calm. Humidity 88% Dew Point 74°.
Shook out after start in 6th OA. Went through first mile split in same position. Thinking I'm too close to kehamm first half mile. I was, and he was out too fast also. Mile one split 6:25. Felt fine, but science is science, and that was way too fast for this morning's weather conditions. Things got worse from there as would be expected.
Had moved into 3rd OA just before turn around point. Started to overheat and pay for dumbass start about the time we turned back off Parkview onto Snake Road. Mile two split 6:43 and still in 3rd.
Empty the last of my ice water from handheld down my front, back and on head at top of Oak Street. No help, radiator past the point of no return. Second place runner (a HS XC kid) made wrong turn in last half mile on Rolling Hills. Within earshot, so yell at him and get him back on the course. Third mile split 6:49.
Able to muster a mini-kick and close to within one second on 2nd OA, but another HS kid passes me in the finish shoot and bumps me back to 4th. Average 6:31 during mop up distance.
Clock Time = 20:26. Fourth OA. Second OA 20:25 and third OA also 20:26. Win AG thanks to CBEGM co-founder taking the OA. This was not good, but easy to look past. Only a few weeks back from time off, brutal unseasonably hot, humid morning, and piss poor tactical performance. Actually, probably in as good as or better overall shape than last year's 19:40 OA win on this course.
