Goal was to keep pace around 8:30 and not go out too fast. Did pretty well for the first 7 miles, then in mile 8 was the walk up over the dyke, then MUD and puddles in the flood plain. Bleck. I was NOT going to run through the puddles and the muddy spots were really slick. Walked with LJ a bit in mile 10 and tried to pick up the pace a bit on the last 3-4 miles, with limited success. Not bad, I guess, for where I am this year (sounds like what I said last year). I really wanted to beat last year's time of 1:52 but that was not to be. Managed to squeak in under 1:55 though, and won my age group so there is that. Crazy amount of rain the last couple of days and today is steady rain all day, but it was pretty light during the race which was nice. The gravel portions are actually better with the rain cuz they're more packed down, but the trail and dirt areas were muddy.
