Notes

I forgot my Garmin! Wasn't sure how I'd do on this, but just tried to run my race as best I could. I could tell I haven't done enough hill training in prep for this (seems to be a common theme for this race), but I ran by feel, had no idea about time or pace, walked when I felt the need but tried to keep Jane Lanford in sight. That worked ok for awhile, but I did lose her on Gilmore Trail. The downhill from 12-14 felt hard and slower than normal; they just paved that road again and the chipseal pavement was really rough in spots, but generally just felt like my foot took a pounding. The last two miles were really hard, as usual, but made better this time because Peter joined me on his bike, brought my water and kept me company. When I headed into the finish chute and saw 2:12:59 slip by on the time, I thought "Oh No!!!" but I managed to cross at 2:13:08... giving me a 4 second PR time! I couldn't believe it.

Between having no idea how I was running during the race, except when I asked Peter when I first saw him "What time is it??" and he said 10:08, then when I met him on the bike after the 14 mile mark he said it was 10:56 (but I didn't want to ask him after that), and the mud and huge puddles to go around, I was sure I'd be a lot slower. This result was a present surprise. 1st in my AG, but second in the series AG to Jane, as usual (she ran 2:09 something... amazing). 6th woman overall, not sure out of how many.
