Bittersweet day for sure. What should have been a day of celebration, was marked by an act of terrorism (be it from within or outside of the states). Sad, sad day. Brittany and I made it across town on the subway and to Wendys before her brother called with the news. We immediately made sure all of our friends were safe, and made sure our family and friends knew we were. Watching the news that night was just bone chilling.

Race Report:

In the days leading up (Friday through Sunday) i did not running what-so-ever. Britt and I walked around the common and arboretum on Sunday and Saturday but otherwise little exercise for me and way to much food. Be it phantom pain or taper madness my knee had this dull ache all week, leading me to believe i might be in for some trouble. Nothing came about luckily.

Met up with Ty, at a friend of Reno's, who had graciously invited runners to chill at their house a mere 2 blocks from the start line in Hopkinton. What a treat! Nice and warm, plenty of bathrooms, and not cold ground to sit on.

The plan was to run with Reno, Ty and a group planning on 250-255 pace. That soon changed after a mile where Ty and I lost Reno, but ended up with Matt and Tim at our side. We stuck together through 4 or 6 miles together before Matt pulled away a bit and soon lost us as he went on to PR with a sub 2:50. Dam! By 10 miles Tim and I were together. This pace felt good. I was letting runners pass by on the downhills, catching most and passing them on the uphill sections. Knee not bothering me. Tim soon disappeared as he chased down Sub 2:50. I didn't see the halfway mark, which was fine by me. Supposedly went through about 1:25, if i had known that I might have tried working harder in some sections where i backed off a bit. The hills in Newton came and went. Not such a big deal as most people say. MDI is much tougher. You just need to respect each course on what it gives and what i can easily take from you. After cresting heart-break and making the long decent downhill i passed MarathonJunkie who looked like he was in Pain. I silently and relentlessly pushed forward. About mile 23 i knew I didn't have 2:50 but a PR was looking might fine, I dug deep and lost much of my composure at this point (any photos will show i was working hard, and my form looked horrible). The last home stretch on Boylston was though as any finish is.

In awe with my finish time. I wasn't so sure about PR'ing with only 3 months of solid running. The knee didn't cause any problems during and only had a little cramping over the last 5 miles. Managed to get sick afterwards but climbed onto the Subway before chaos ensued.

Mighty proud of the Maine contingency, Happy and very fortunate none of my friends and crow family wasn't hurt during the horrific events.
