Well I knew I was ready going into this but Only 7~ weeks of really good training left a lot of unknowns so this meant super sharp focus if I wanted to do something in Beantown this year.

TLDR- 30sec PB, and a negative split! A well run Marathon! Thanks Rob at Eastern Shore Training for taking my training to the next level.

Haven't been to Boston since 2015 where I blew up the final 10k. I wanted to avoid that and finish strong today. Brittany dropped me off in Hopkington where I took a 20min shuttle ride, so much better than the 1hr ride from th Common. Met Peyton (from Tennessee and his first Boston) and chatted with him which helped pass the time on the shuttle and put nerves at bay.

If you haven't run with 30,000 of you closest running friends before. Arrive semi early and get in line for the porta john, after exiting Athletes village there's another set of portable toilets GO AGAIN! Sit down and get off your feet. Warm up 30min before, get in your corral 20min before the start.

On the start line, it was low 50's cloudy and breezy, than a drizzle just before the gun. 10am sharp off we went. Seemed to be a huge competitive mass around me so I stuck to the plan to go out conservatively and stayed patient Letting those weaving in and out go by.

By 5k it thinned out a bit and I was able to get into a nice rhythm but the legs were heavy which was concerning. Gel at 3.5mi. Chose to ignore my concern at 4mi and stick with the plan. Found my marathon pace effort and stick with it.

10k rolls on by nearly perfectly where I intended to be right around 39min. Not too fast but certainly not lolly gagging along. Another gel at 7.5mi.

Miles 8-12 were on the money, maybe a little slow but I didn't worry about it, just letting the pace come to me. Another gel at 12mi think it was caffeinated (100mg) The wellsely women didn't disappoint with their energy.

Half in 1:21:54. A bit faster than I intended but I vividly remember I told myself calm down, relax find a group to run with. Which I did for a bit and it helped those middle miles go by..until the newton hills where I did my own thing.

16mi - another gel. Newton hills weren't too tough but a good reminder why we did all those hill workouts in Feb/March. I passed numerous guys who clearly weren't prepared. Satisfying to feel so good on the hills.

I knew Heartbreak Hill was coming so yeah another gel at 20mi. I think it was caffeinated (100mg). I knew pushing the effort on this hill wouldn't reap any rewards just let the effort be as natural as possible I reminded myself that I had 5mi ahead of downhill to tear it up if I could.

And tear it up I did after Heartbreak Hill (21mi). 22mi another gel. Now the fun of coming down Commonwealth Ave seeing how many you can pass. I let off the gas right before the dip before Hereford which was silly but I walked Hereford yesterday and psyched myself out on how steep it was.

Finished strong on Boylston St, euphoric with the effort.

What's next?!
