Notes

Ugh - That was brutally hot. Dumped more water on me than I drank. Nice job out there everyone. Been feeling a bit burnt out the last week and half so didn't feel nearly as sharp as I would have liked, but held it together, sort of.. Felt sloppy that last mile and half..eek.

First mile was fun, passed tons of people, saw Mulchay and gave her a cheer. First mile check. Not too winded. Second mile, started to breath heavier, looked down and saw 5:45, not where I wanted to be, so picked it up and went through in 5:41 - I could deal with that. Saw Robert Ashby in the distance and settled on picking him up, by mile 2.5-3 I caught him and stuck with him for around 3/4mile. Rico was right there too. At the 4ish mile aid station he dropped off, and I kept o n rolling, the heat/humidity was miserable.. I totally forgot about the rolling hills the last 2 miles. Around 4.5 I caught Homich - he looked a little rough - thought for sure he was right on me heels as I suffered on the rolling hills the last mile before the turn into the Park for the final 1/3 of a mile. That sharp right into the park and hill sucked so much. Happy to finish, and even happier to walk away with a PB by 15sec. Previous best was way back from 2011! so a 15 sec best and back in top form.

Really wanted to break 35mins after the July 3rd race but fell off track when I began skipping my long runs, and after DEST 2 weeks ago I was just run down. I pushed too hard at DEST and dug myself into a hole that I barely scrambled out out by today. Given mile 6 was 15ish second slower than the other 5, I was right there on the cusp if training was on track.

Much improved from my first running of Beach2Beacon in 2018, where I ran 38:10.
