Notes
Race organizers called it yesterday to shorten the race for the 2nd time in race history and for good reason. 70mph winds, probably snow/ice and a temperature of 29f without the windchill factor at the top.
Weather at race end (3.56mi) upper 30's, windy and misty.
Hard to determine what to wear at the base. I wore a long sleeve, BCR shirt, gloves, ball cap, shorts. Tucked into my waist was a lightweight Beanie and a wind jacket. I could have gone lighter as I heated up quickly and didn't wear anything I tucked in my waist.
Started off quick, but not so quickly as the top men and women quickly disappeared. l worked through the pack the first half mile or so than settled in. Felt good through 1mi, and still passing folks who shouldn't have started up front. Around 1.5(?) I started taking short walk breaks maybe ever quart mile. Definitely didn't have my mountain legs like I had last year. Slogged along going back and forth with folks until the timing mats. Quickly turned around after a few gulps of water.
FYI, bring a cup cause they don't supply them. Mines being delivered Monday 😐
Overheard that this 3.5mi section was tougher than the last 3.4..next year! 37th and 8th in my division. Meh. Nice shirt, medal and finishers blanket. I arrived at like 6am, for a 9am start, no need you could have showed up at 730. Plenty of parking.
