Notes
Temp and DP 51, no wind, pollen of 7.3 Just a really nice day.
Did a 5 mile tempo in 32:11, splitting as 6:27/6:26/6:29/6:30/6:19. Just hit a steady rhythm and held it - a bit slightly fast at first as I got pulled out by some others, and then I corrected and held a good pace until the last 800, when I opened up slightly. Tried to run hard but not too hard, and I think I hit the right balance.
I did a tempo while everyone else did 1200s. Because of that, this was one of the easiest tempos that I've ever done, from a mental standpoint. I didn't have anyone next to me to distract me or make me claustrophobic. At the same point, I had a never ending sequence of people jumping in and out of lane 1 for their 1200s, which kept things interesting. The miles pretty much flew by. So that was nice. A+ would do again
(the mental ease, plus the good weather, is probably why this is the fastest 8K tempo I've done in years, despite holding back a bit.)
Breathing was a puff of rescue, Advair 250/50, and Qvar, plus another 2 puffs of the rescue just before the workout because of the pollen. Breathing was good once I used the rescue; slightly tight before.
Breakfast was rice, hemp powder, smores and berry GUs, and a few watermelon sportbeans. Sport beans did annoy my gut slightly, though I was fine for the workout.
