Notes

SWIM portion of Tri-in-the-Buff Triathlon!! My first Triathlon!! I was a bit excited for this, but that kind of goes without saying. I showed up late and was a little rushed the whole morning, so I was a little torqued. I also didn't get much time to 'warm up'. The schedule for the start of the tri was a little weird too. They had multiple waves, with Intermediate/Relay/Sprint/Du/Try-a-tri and all of the age groups going separate. This was a little irritating. I definitely did not like this aspect of things. The lake was almost dead flat when I showed up, but then by the time I got out to swim it was getting choppy and there were some decent size waves. This made for much slower progress than I was used to. I was expecting to finish the 750meters in about 11.5-12 minutes (1:30 pace per 100) but I ended up finishing in 14:26 (1:52 pace per 100). Waves suck. The exit to the beach also sucked due to an excess of rocks and slippery shale in the very shallow water.

Transition:

I was able to get the upper part of my wetsuit off as I ran up the ramp from the lake to the transition area. Then I got the rest off and got ready for the bike and clocked a T1 time of 1:49. This is not fast. I probably need some practice and familiarity with transition to pick this up a bit. BUT, this time included running through the transition area with my suit on and then with my bike, so maybe it's not that bad after all.

Either way, this was my best discipline, by far.

Sleep: awful (bed at 11:00am, wake at 5:30am)
