Notes
BIKE portion of Tri-in-the-Buff Triathlon!! My first Triathlon!! Getting going on the bike was no problem. I was a bit out of whack because I was wet when starting. It took me a little bit to get used to the cadence at first and I was trying not to go too nuts at the beginning, because I have a tendency to overdo it and bonk. I was making good time though, so I just tried to keep a decent cadence and get what I could out of the speed. After getting used to riding again I was feeling pretty good. It was a bit confusing trying to figure out how I was doing though, since there were at least three groups of people out there (Intermediate, Sprint and Du). So, I did let some people past me, but they were mostly on suped up TRI bikes and I wouldn't have been able to hang with them anyway. I kept the bike computer in cadence mode the whole way, but was trying to keep an eye on average speed to gauge how I was doing. The computer said I was at about 19.2 mph or so for my average speed, which is pretty good, but not great. I had done some work earlier in the week at about that speed, but for a much shorter distance, so it seems OK. A good ride overall.
Transition:
I was able to get my helmet and shoes off, sneakers and hat on pretty quick, not as fast as I wanted to, but not bad. Then I made a complete BONEHEAD move. I was not paying attention to which way I should have exited the transition area and almost went out the BIKE-IN direction. I then had to turn around and run all the way to the opposite corner of transition in order to exit. STUPID STUPID STUPID. I ended up with a T2 time of 1:27 because of it. I would have been under 1 minute had I not made this NEWBIE mistake. I will fix this for next time and not let my brain wander off into never-never land. UGH.
I definitely have some work to do on BIKE.
