2 Laps of the Buoys at Kershaw Park in Canandaigua

I finally made it down to Kershaw on a Friday night to join in the open water "Masters Swim". Tim Cardot and some other people at TriCC had mentioned it a bunch of times, so I just wanted to give it a try and get some practice in before any of the tri races. Also I wanted to get used to swimming with the wetsuit on. This was the first time I have been swimming with the wetsuit, so it took a little getting used to. The first thing I noticed was how much buoyancy it gave me. It's almost ridiculous how well you float with the thing on. The suit is pretty flexible and really doesn't impede my stroke very much at all, but it is definitely not the same as without it. After swimming for just a few seconds, I then noticed how fast it was to be swimming with it on. Again, it's almost ridiculous how much different it is. Every stroke seems to take you about twice as far as usual. It almost feels like cheating. I was able to do two full laps of the course without a problem. That worked out to be two miles, but it REALLY didn't feel like two miles. I think each lap is shy of one mile by a good amount. I think each lap is more like 0.75 or maybe 0.9 miles at most. I base that on the fact that it took me about 20-22 minutes to do one full lap, back just about to the beach. In my best condition at RIT, I was only able to swim the 1650 in 22 minutes. I know full well that I was not swimming that fast, plus I stopped to rest. I'll do more laps next time.
