Notes

Division III Relay meet. On Pembroke's 4x800 "B" team. Leading off: me- Johhny- Pat C- Christian. Also doubling back in the DMR "B" team a few hours later.

Going into the race, I was looking to run a pretty good time (hopefully 2:08 or so) and put our team in a position to place. We were in the first heat, so I wanted to try and hang off the back of the lead pack and then be somewhat close at the end. Z told me to run 63 for the first quarter and then come back hard.

I was on the outside of the starting line, but not in the barrel- a good start. When the race started, I got out pretty hard, definitely in the front half of the race. I think my first lap was 29-30, a little quick. I ttried to just hold my position for the next lap, although I believe a few kids passed me at this point. I came through the quarter in close to 60 I think. I was still struggling to hold onto my spot. I think I was at 1:36 for three laps. I tried to push and finish as fast as possible, and ended up, as mentioned, with about 2:10 (34 last lap). This ended up being the fastest leg, as the other three ran around 2:15-2:16 each.

This was a pretty good race for me. 2:10-2:11 is about my PR, so its something. The race definitely went out a little too fast for me to handle, but its always good to get experience at dealing with a quick early pace. I think that I should have tried to stay tighter to Chris Nevins, a Hingham jr who led off his team. I know that he ran 2:50.6 for the 1k the same meet that I did. I believe that he split 2:08-2:09 today, putting him right where I wanted to be. My other problem in this race was that I never really passed anyone- another consequence of going out too fast. Still, a pretty good race.
