Yearly race / visit to CHS with Pat and Jrt. Decided to do the 5k this year to stay fresh for a solid LR tomorrow, hoped to run no harder than necessary to pickup a cash prize! It was surprisingly competitive, I went out at what felt like a conservative effort and came through the mile under 5:20 in 10th place! (5k and 15k combined). Jarrett was well ahead of me, supposedly in 3rd of the 5k runners, so things weren’t looking great. I chilled the 2nd mile and waited to see if anyone would die and come back to me, but it didn’t really happen. Ran pretty hard the 3rd mile to pass a few, didn’t come close to catching Jarrett but it ended up being enough to get 3rd and win 50 bucks. Not bad, a little harder than I meant to run, but not a full effort... if I had known how close I was gonna be to a 5k road PB maybe I would have kept that 2nd mile more honest. Alas - looking forwards to a good run tomorrow.
Official time was 16:45, although I had 16:39 on my watch....
