Race @ NYU Division 3 Challenge- at the Armory. Kept the PR streak alive! Difficult race (note video is here :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6vccV-Wl-8, starting at 1:05:00). In the slowest of three sections, along with Joe Livote. Trying to sneak under 4:34, the NYSCTC 'B' standard. Planned on hanging on to the back of the pack and trying to go out in ~2:16 and then just keep pushing.

Race splits were: 34.2-33.8 (68) 33.6-34.5 (2:16.1) 33.9 (2:50.0) 35.1-36.4-34.1

Basically, the race went pretty much as I had hoped. I got out cleanly and tucked into the back, and we started clicking off 34s like I hoped. I made a key move early on by passing two guys who were falling off immediately, thus sticking with the main pack. On laps 4 and 5 I made to more good surges, keeping contact with the pack after I had fallen back a few meters. Came through the 1k in 2:50! Which is a terrific pace, perfect 34s (4:32 pace), but then they finally broke me. I fell off the pack and was on my own for the final three. They were way slower than the rest of my race- BUT I did hold it together and got a PR. Not the perfect race that I was hoping for, but not a bad one either- and knocking 9 seconds off of my mile best in a single season is pretty swell. Chance I might get to run in a relay next week, but not counting on it. Excited for spring track already- but it will be nice to get a month or so of some hard training in without a race. Time to bump the miles back up, hopefully.
