Went into this with the goal of just getting the Boston qual, plan was to just treat it as a long run - run ~6:50 for half and then pick it up from there if I felt confident, maybee close fast the last 10k if things were groovy. Didn't really go anything like that, but can't say I'm unhappy with the outcome... Started faster than planned, but wasn't concerned, planning on settling back. Ended up latching onto a small group that was running 6:20-6:30, and since I felt fine I just figured I would roll with them and back off if I started to get uncomfortable with the pace... never happened. Other than some GI concerns, felt pretty strong until around mile 20. Was hoping to hold 6:15s from there to the finish, but had to contend with some tough hills and some headwind... didn't bonk, but ran out of gas and had to grind out the last few miles. Was still passing people every which way the second half of the course.

Got the BQ, and even got a PR! Not the time I wanted to hit at Boston, but better than I expected for today - bummed I didn't get Jesse's time! But, don't know that I had all that much more in me today - it was more or less a race effort, just a pretty smart/conservatively run one. Definitely some lessons learned here for future marathons, regarding running conservatively and going by feel... then again, I never had any doubts that I could run faster than MHM, just didn't think I could today. Still planning on trying to rip one in the fall!
