STEEPLECHASE

2015 Outdoor NYSCTC Championships steeplechase. Not what I wanted at all, 8th again, slower time than my solo effort last week. Bleh.

Not much to say about the race itself. Not gonna beat myself up over it, I think I went for it. Got out in a good spot, sat in the middle of the lead pack for the first two laps before the top two broke away. I tried to cover the move, then got passed by the chase pack and hung with them for a lap or two. Really worked to stay in contact, there was a 75 second lap somewhere in there I believe coach said. By the last 1k I was totally gassed. Held onto 7th until the last lap. On the last lap I could hear Fishbein from SLU coming on hot AGAIN, did not want to get run down like Liberty Leagues and so despite totally ephing up the last water barrier (I'm pretty sure I scrambled out of the pit on my hands) I had a fast final straightaway to make sure he didn't catch me.

Well, not sure what went wrong with this season. Hoping to get some feedback this week from JML on the season and the past 4 years in general. I had speculated that I've lost fitness from a lack of aerobic runs, but coach didn't think that was the case. Millar and him BOTH independently asked if I was taking iron after the race, which I thought was pretty amusing... I doubt that is the issue, BUT gonna start taking a supplement since I have a bottle of the stuff and there's really no reason not to.

Anyways, not exactly a storybook ending to my collegiate career (xc was much closer, actually) but as Paul pointed out, it just keeps the fire burning! Plan for the IMMEDIATE future is to run 1 mi / day for the next week (Jrt's orders) and then transition into training for MHM (which will include a few other races along the way - see calendar). Then will turn around and hit it in the indoor/outdoor seasons 2015-2016. I've come a long way in the past four years, no reason to think that I can't make similar jumps over the next four!
