Madison Park

Notes

GBTC workout (track / road racers): 6x(1200 @ 10k, 400 @ 5k) w/ 400 jog or 2' rest between everything. We were OUTSIDE for the first time, at the Madison Park track (right next to Reggie). It was dark for maybe the first set and a half, but then the lights were turned on! This morning I picked ~4' and 76 as my targets for the 1200s/400s.

I'm actually very pleased with this workout, despite running slower than I'd hoped at a fairly hard effort. Being outside definitely made things slower than it would have been indoors - there was a pretty decent headwind on the backstretch. I ran on my own of course, and was happy with this workout for two reasons. The first was that I felt like I recovered pretty quickly between each rep - they were challenging, but I did the 400m jog after each in basically 2' on the nose every time, and felt more or less ready going into the next one. The workout was just long! Turned into a real grind. I was happy with the fact that I was able to run consistent paces and finish the whole thing, despite having to push myself. After the first set even I was thinking that this was too hard / I wouldn't be able to do 6 sets, and indeed I'm pretty sure that no one else doing this workout could have possibly done 6 sets (by the time I finished the workout, everyone else was done with their cooldown). But I managed to get through the whole thing and was actually feeling more confident later in the workout, pretty internally focused. Not gonna get too hung up on the specifics of 5k / 10k pace, I think I found an effort that was appropriate for today and was able to run those paces consistently.

The whole thing was 14K of "continuous" running on the track, yikes!
