Notes

Harpoon 5 Miler along with Manny, Metzger, Eric, Shaun, Norcross - competed as team "Los Huevos Rancheros". Very fun morning, got 2nd as a team and won a 6-pack of Harpoon each. Reallly pleasantly surprised with this race. Felt pretty OOS in Tuesday's workout, and was feeling junky and heavy on the warmup and before the race (nothing to the warmup other than a 3 mile jog). I thought that if I could average anything under 5:50, that would be pretty solid. Course was flat and fast, albeit windy in stretches. We managed to get right up near the starting line, at the gun I tried to go out smart and conservatively but still was pulled out way too fast, thought I was screwed when I hit the mile in 5:2x (and didn't feel good!) BUT, even though I never felt relaxed or comfortable at any point in the race, I nonetheless felt strong! It was a similar feeling to the USATFNE XC 10k, as well as the two Thanksgiving road races, all three from last fall - was breathing really hard and my legs hurt, but I felt like I could push myself the whole way. 5 miles felt like a super short distance, felt like I was almost done the entire time. Definitely short of 5 miles, but still a very solid time for me - I'm happy with 5:31 pace at this point in the summer! If I can build off this fitness, there's no reason I can't PR at 10k and SPAC in August / September. Gotta get the miles back up first.
