Hill acclimation
Long run from Cleveland Circle with Manny, Shaun, Metzger. Ran out and back to Newton Lower falls, then did 2 mile tempo, 4xheartbreak hill loop (continuous), 2 mile tempo with some jogging in between the three tempos.
Felt really strong! First tempo was 5:59, 6:14 from miles 19-21 on the course, which is a great pace over a hilly stretch - a little faster than planned but felt good. Then, was pretty much able to hang onto Manny for the hill loops, was super consistent (4:06/4:06/4:09/4:04) and averaged 5:4x for that entire nearly 3 mile stretch, which is crazy! Pretty much 6:00 pace up the hill which was a fairly high effort, than flew down the hill and felt like I was still recovering no matter how fast I went. Final tempo from 21-23 was solid as well, 5:48/5:56 on a predominately downhill or flat section so hopefully can recreate that on race day. The last mile wasn’t easy but I felt like I had more in me and much better than on Friday. All in all a great run, actually feel better about my fitness after than before! 94 miles for the week, could have pushed to hit 100 with a double yesterday but not mad I didn’t. Maybe next week, we’ll see!
