Notes

Paul convinced Jarrett and I to each do a solo 1 mile TT, with some burritos on the line: each person you beat has to buy you a burrito. I was a little hesitant to do this, but it was fun after all. I was pretty confident that I could break 5, and thought I could probably run under 4:50, but wasn't too sure - felt pretty crappy yesterday after all, and it's gotten a lot warmer all of a sudden. Had a short but fairly thorough warmup, was pretty nervous but didn't feel bad doing strides. Wanted to start at 72s and negative split, but got out faster than I expected (spikes!), first 400 in 68 and 409 in 70. I knew 200m in that I was gonna be fine to run under 4:50, thought I could maybe break 4:40 but it wasn't to be. I was probably slowing down the entire way from the start to 1400m, kicked it in pretty fast the last 200 (I think it was like 38/32 for the final lap). Even though the pacing ended up being very even, I'm sure I could run faster if I did this again soon (never mind in a race) just from having the confidence to know what I was capable of. Still, was pretty happy with this time - an outdoor mile PR! Jarrett won pretty handily in 4:40, but I held off Paul (4:46), so there's a burrito in my future.
