Notes
First, a fun run story. About 10 minutes into the run I was running on a quiet, woodsy residential area. I see a big commotion up ahead, it turns out there was a bad car accident. There were two cars that looked they collided head on, some police cars, wreckage and maybe a body or two scattered around. I didn't really know what to do, so I kinda just jogged through the middle between the two cars. It was awkward.
Anyway, I ran alone from my house, doing a fartlek of 8x1 min on, 3xoff @ 3k-5k effort. Doing the 200s tomorrow because I want to do them on grass or the track. Warmed up for 20 minutes, feeling pretty groovy running 6:30s. I think I ran the first few pickups too fast, or maybe I was just shocked by running hard, but they were pretty tough. I tried to focus on not staying at a normal pace in between pickups. After 4 or 5 I started to get in a good rhythm and nailed down an effort that felt good. Doing some tempo miles this weekend should be interesting, a good prep for the Brew Run. It seems like running 5:20s might be a little ambitious. But I am in way better shape then last year, this time last year I ran my fartleks on a flatter loop at ~7:10 average. And I did 20-25 minute continuous tempos @ 5:30s - 5:40s. So actually, I think I will start at 5:30s for the miles and then knock it down if I feel decent, actually looking at last year it doesn't seem so unreasonable.
