Hot and sunny race, 4th time here and couldn't defend my title. Went out and ran shoulder to shoulder with the eventual winner (recent HS grad from Whitman Hanson) for the first half of the race. Pretty quick first 2 miles as compared to previous years splits (for me), probably a little too fast. Fell off on the 3rd mile and pretty much disengaged, was really fearing the big hill on mile 4. Struggled up and tried to get going on the other side, I could see the leader not toooo far ahead and tried to convince myself that I could catch him with a big last mile, but no dice, was slow all the way to the finish. I was right though, only lost by < 30s so I really just needed to run ~5:30 pace the last mile to catch him. Ah well... slower than last year, but it was hot and humid (mid-high 80s and sunny), so pretty similar performance really.
