Notes

Dartmouth Indoor Classic 3k, seeded myself at 9:03 based on my 4:34 last week, was hoping to run faster than I did at Dartmouth last year (9:08). Ran slower than hoped for, but I was okay with this race. I was in the fast heat, started out near the back but still came through under 9' pace, a little separation from me to the main pack. I stayed pretty calm and closed the gap / moved up a bit over the first K, came through 2-3 seconds under 3' I believe. The whole first 8 or 9 laps were good, I was very engaged and was keying off the RPI guys to stay with the pack. I think I blinked mentally at 1600 though, I felt pretty good going through (right around 4:48), but I remember seeing that there were 7 laps to go and being really unsettled. Lost focus a bit and got gapped, settled way too much from there and just stayed a fixed distance back from some Middlebury guy. Needed to make a move in the last 1000 but never did, just sat there and kicked it in a little on the final lap.

Decent race, probably a little tired going into it and just need another 3k to really run this right. Well off my equivalent mile time, but less far off when you consider the BU -> Dartmouth conversion. Haven't decided yet whether I want to race 3k or mile at USATF NE champs - I think my chances of PRing in either event are slim (slightly better in the mile), but running sub 4:30 / sub 9:00 are both achievable goals and would each be satisfying.
