MIAA Division 3 Indoor T&F Championships. First time I have ever qualified for this meet- was really excited to be here. In the third heat of the 1000, seeded 5th. Looking to run 2:45 or better- confident that I was capable of doing so based on recent workouts. Still feeling sick, coughing, as I had been all week- but thought I felt better this morning. Looking to go for the win in my heat, hoping that would get me the results I wanted.

I was in the perfect spot on the starting line, the furthest outside of the kids not in the barrel. The gun went off, and I easily got out into third place behind two Hingham kids. I tucked right in there, and ended up getting a little boxed in. The first lap was 33-34, slower than expected. Over the next lap, the two Hingham kids tried to separate from the group, but I managed to get out and stick behind them. Heading into the third lap, I passed them, only to have them pass me back. I really began to surge as we came through the 600 in 1:39, making somewhat of an ugly pass on the corner as I got into 1st. I held the lead all through into the bell lap (through the 8 in 2:14-slow), getting passed on the final corner. I was able, however, to surge and pass that kid back on the final stretch, only to have another kid come by me on the outside, putting me in 2nd at the finish in 2:47.15.

This was a pretty good race for me. I was somewhat disappointed with the time; although it was a PR, I was looking for something a little faster. However, I competed well within my heat; it was somewhat of a slow, crowded race, and in order to run the time I wanted I would have had to take the lead early on and run away from the pack (in hindsight, I may have been capable of doing this). Also, I was still feeling pretty sick; I was coughing and feeling pukey afterwards for a while. It was somewhat disheartening to see Pat and Christian running awesome times (2:44 and 2:43) in the second heat- I wish I had made that heat.

Pembroke came in second overall as a team, bringing home a trophy! The boys mile (Wes and Pony 1-2 in 4:20, 4:21) and the 4x8 (meet record 8:09) were the two best races I've ever seen.
