Weekly goal: ~60 mi
Memorial Day "5k" Road Race at Pembroke Center. Same short course as always, Z said he measured it before and said it was 3 miles on the nose. No ringers this year, and Paul, Ryan, and Wes all weren't there for various reasons. No Jesse either, I didn't get to avenge my previous losses. Decided to just go out and run and see how I felt, wasn't too sure what to expect. First half mile is all downhill, so I went out faster than expected, came through the mile at 5:18. On mile 2 Joe Joe pulled away out front and Pony fell off, so I was pretty much on my own, just tried to keep up the same effort, 5:43 2nd mile. Mile 3 started with a steep quarter mile climb up Mountain Ave, then it was flat all the way back, crested the hill and then cruised in the last mile. 3rd mile was 5:49, total time 16:51 for 2nd.
Pretty encouraging result, 48 secs faster than last year after a similar first week back and 25 secs faster than I ran two years ago at the end of track. More even pacing would have been nice but that was more a function of the course and not being sure where I was at. A lot of work to do this summer but I am starting from a good spot.
