Notes

Dual meet @ Scituate. Ran the mile; no real Scituate opponents in the race. Ryan M and Jesse were in there with me; me and Jesse hoped to break 5 together. I figured that Ryan M would be running to fast to stay with, so Ilet him go right away. I allowed Jesse to lead the first 300, then I took over from him. I succesfully breathed through my nose only for the first lap. We split about 70-71. I tried to keep up the pace, with Jesse right behind me- we came through in 2:27 (76). Z shouted out to me that we had a good race going, and I realized that I was feeling pretty good and running pretty smooth. I separated from Jesse on the 3rd lap. With 600 to go, Z shouted that the race began; I tried to adopt this mindset and build up into my last lap kick. I came through in about 3:43 (76). At that point, I tried to run the last lap as hard as I could, finishing in 4:56 (73).

I was really happy with this race. For one it proves that I can now consider myself a true sub 5 miler, as I broke today without any realu competition. The race today as I mentioned felt pretty smooth, and looking through the paces I ran it fairly evenly. With competition, hopefully I could bring down the splits for the third and second laps. I definitely worked on being confident during the race, which was helpful. I also like the new mindset I've adopted for the mile: get in position in the first lap, settle into the pace for the next 600, and the start building up to your final lap kick with 600 to go.

After the rAce, my legs were tired and my throat burned. The burning lasted for a while. I ran in the second leg of a 4X4 at the end of the meet, and thought I did a pretty good job. I'm running in a B team 4X1600 at the Relay meet Saturday-really exciting. Z says that I can run low 4:50s, and that our team should be looking for 2nd or 3rd- really exciting. I could also be running the 800 leg of an SMR.
