5k @ Springfield. Doing a "workout" w/ Brian, Colin, and the late addition of Jake - going through 2 miles at 10:20, then going hard the last mile. Realistically I was hoping to at best go just sub 5 or close to on the final mile. The four of us each were supposed to take 4 laps before the final push, we had a sequence where I would take the second 800 but due to getting stuck in the back in the scramble, I wasn't able to get to the front until the 3rd 800. Things went well for the first 2600 (Brian had to take the whole first 1k), we were at or under pace and I might add that during my stint in the lead we were running EXACTLY 38.5 (the goal). When I relinquished the lead to Jake though, I guess I just mentally checked out, blinked and there was a big gap between me and the guys. Fell apart from there on out, in survival mode not racing mode. Came through 3200 in 10:20 so basically the goal but was already falling apart and tanked from there.

A bad race, but I remain positive. I always tend to start my season off with some mediocre performances before making big gains in the second half. I had hoped that this season I would start off ahead of the curve and then make the jump to the ECAC level. Hasn't exactly been what's happened, but I think it will work out. Definitely a lot of fitness to be gained and lbs to be dropped. And just need to be focused. I don't believe in toughness in the sense that I need to will myself to next level performances, but I do need to be mentally prepared to knuckle down and stay engaged during the tough parts of races and react positively. Excited to get back into the routine this week, still a lot of season left to go and looking forward to it.
