Notes

Mile run at Bowdoin Invite, in the faster of two heats w/ Bobby. Did not go well. Wasn't too down on myself before, yeah I missed a bit at the end of break and am definitely overweight, but I still felt like I was in good shape to run a fast time PR shape. Don't think this race is indicative of my fitness at all. It was kind've a funky pacing; I had a terrible start as usual, going straight to the back, and the field was very slow through the first lap (35+). Picked it up a lot for lap 2 (32.5) but mentally I was pretty much beaten at that point. I felt like I was sprinting and wasn't confident in all at my ability to hold pace. Tried to stay engaged, passed a guy or two in the second half of the race but really wasn't doing anything, wasn't anywhere near where I wanted to be in the race. Didn't feel totally dead, just like I didn't have another gear. Coach thinks that just based on training something must be off, possibly the three day run of lift-workout-lift this week. I'm sure it didn't help that I missed some time which included hill sprints, and did minimal strides and lifting over break. I definitely think that I need some more "speed" training to run a quality mile. With that said, just looking at this one as a rust-buster, it always takes me one race to adjust. Last year I ran 9:32 (worse than 4:42) and then 4:34 the next week, so today really doesn't say anything - on to the next one.
