There is not much near the office but there is some 1-2 miles from it.

The trendy thing in Baltimore with new construction or renovations is to have retail at street level and housing or office space above it-sometimes both. The CVS a block away from my work is the ground level of an apartment building.
Most of the downtown is government buildings, courthouses, and hotels. At least this downtown is safer than Miami which was all of that plus 50+ homeless all over the buildings.
