I would take cool in a minute. I haven't felt "cool" since early October.

If you like temps way colder than what you ran in today for months on end then come on up.

I guarantee you would be buying a ticket back to Miami in less than 48 hours!LOL

    Congrats on the new PR!

Yeah we get the other side here in July and August and it's miserable.  And I remember everyone complaining last summer how sick they were of the heat, but enough of this crap already.

I don't really care about warm weather, I am just asking for 30 stinking degrees with no wind chill.  You know what I'm saying, my goodness.

Is it that bad?  Or maybe soreness?  Take care of it.

I hurt it my last long run before the HM. It hasn't been the same since. My symptoms indicate a slight muscle strain, but it should have healed by now.

      Personal Bests:

SHIRFAN...sweet run for you too! Would be so fun to have the chance to kill a long run with you, RMT3b and myself sometime. Although I have to say, it'd be pretty cool to do a run with any of these guys and gals, regardless of the pace.

I agree!  I would looooove that!!!

Jay: FANTASTIC run!!!  Thanks for the kind words!

Kristin: Thanks, hon.  I was just having a moment...I feel better about things now!

Tinman: Nice job on the 5 spot today!

Damaris: Thanks!  I went straight out to FB stalk you and saw the finish time there - what a race!  Congrats!

I hear ya sir!! We had an unseasonably warm day yesterday. All the way up to 39F! People were out

          running in tshirts!LOL

We get terrible humidity here as well. One of my good friends ran the Miami Marathon a few weeks ago

(in 3:17) said the humidity was very low compared to what we run in during July-August.............we have

a marathon in mid-May, one in early June when it starts to warm up and then not again until  late

          August, just too humid.

We get the best of both worlds!! Hot and humid July/Aug.........freeze your ass cold from Nov-March!!Big grin

LOL. I'm not being secretive, just short on time.  4:34:09, so 3:09 minute PR and 20+ minute course PR.

4:34:09 for your marathon Damaris. Damn girl. I'm duly impressed. Well done. Smile

Ouch, PGD! I like how he made it your fault that he didn't have his dog on a leash. Not.

BruceD555, amazing pace for such a long run.

Shirfan, blistering twenty miles at a smoking pace.

              tinman11, great distance.

Damaris, congratulations! Please tell me how you manage to go from one marathon to another in less than a month. I wish that I were that tough.

I'm in love with my new toy. It'll be with me at work and on the plane now. It's much easier to carry than a foam rollerSmile

                Happy Sunday, folks!

Today was my longest run to date.  Before today, I'd done ~13 miles three separate times (all in the past 6 weeks), but today I had a 16 on the training schedule.  I had mapped out a loop that would take me in a few places where I hadn't run before.  And I knew there were hills there, but I'd been doing hill workouts for the past several weeks.  However, I guess I didn't take into account the actual profile of the route:

                16 mile route elevation profile

I knew I'd end up walking bits and pieces of the route today, but I wasn't sure how I'd break it up.  I wound up just listening to my legs and feet, knowing that I had a long way to go, and I wasn't trying to beat any time.  Sticking to my long run pace of ~11:00 would have been ideal.

For a day in February, I couldn't complain about the weather.  It was about 60 degrees, but it was windy.  It seems to always be windy out here.  And today it seemed like the wind was in my face the whole time (even though I know it wasn't).  Still, lots of sunshine, and most of the snow from last week had melted off.

Between miles 5 and 8 I was running through some neighborhoods that were hit pretty hard by a forest fire.  Lots of homes are still in the reconstruction phases, and it was interesting to see how one house could be completely destroyed while the houses on either side were untouched.

After that, there was another long climb that just seemed to get steeper the closer I got to the top (and I turned off before I even got to the top).  Then it was almost all downhill.  But the downhill running, while not requiring a hard effort, still took a toll on my feet.  As the miles on, my feet were just getting more and more sore, and the walk breaks more and more frequent.  However, at no point was I ready to throw in the towel.  I just kept going until the loop was complete.

*(added)  I finished my 16.38 miles in just under three hours, so my average pace for the entire run was 10:57, though there were splits as low as 9:14, and as high as 13:10.

I know that my feet will recover, and it's just a matter of building up endurance (as I've had similar issues when I went longer than I was used to).  I think my next long run should be on a bit flatter of a route, and maybe I should save the hill section of this route for my hill runs.

I probably didn't eat enough before I went out today, and I only had 1 Gu and 1 pack of sport beans during the run.  I should work on doing better about fueling on the run.  I did have plenty of water (with Nuun tablets added), though, so hydration and electrolytes weren't a problem.

Next week I have an 18 on the schedule for my long run.  There's a local 20k race on Saturday, and I'm considering doing that race and then tacking on an extra 6 miles immediately afterward.  I'll have to look at the profile of the race again to see if it's flatter than what I did today.  :-p
