I just lost a bidding war on ebay.  My usual strategy of waiting until10 seconds are left to bid didn't work.

I like HappyLily's idea - experiences trump objects every time.  Years ago DH and I agreed not to do birthday or Valentines day presents.  We both hate shopping and are hard to shop for.  After he told me to buy myself a winter coat on my 40th birthday, I said, "Never mind.  Let's just go out to dinner."  So we did. At Christmas, we just tell each other what we want -- usually books or gear of some kind.  It isn't romantic, but it works.  I wouldn't mind getting a professional massage, since I've never had one, but a trip or weekend at someplace special would make me happier than any clothes, books or jewelry.

Anyhow - it was hot but not humid, so I did six hilly miles in a nearby neighborhood.  It felt like a good workout, and was a really nice change from the TM.
