Marathon Maniac #3309

    Good Morning Everyone,

I am up early to go help get my new office painted, and some other office stuff done so the shop can open up ASAP. One thing I have learned about people - smart people too - is that they don't have a real clue what goes into opening up a Collision Center. Once I explain about all the different enforcement and building codes.....especially environmental one's, they just never thought the whole process through....guess why there's a need for experienced people like me  Oh well, the shop will open soon enough, and like I said the other day.....I am receiving my regular salary to keep me from looking for another job which I do have another offer, but not a position I really want.

I have had a BIG cutback week running because of over doing it trying to get ready for a 50K race with Holly. I learned running 26.5 miles one week, then almost 18 miles the next week is NOT a good idea for me, and my legs were sore and heavy and even short runs were getting hard.....but nothing hurts like an injury though

I have to admit being VERY confused about training for a 50K race, and a lot of people don't really agree with me running 26 mile runs and I want to work up to a 30 miler. I am following an advanced online training plan that advocates long runs of this nature with miles on the same terrain as the race. But many people have mentioned that longish runs 2 days in a row is better than one looong one, And a Tri friend of mine I ran with last Sunday - who has ran many 50K's - said training for a 50K is no different than training for a Marathon.....after 20 plus miles it hurts regardless. I don't really agree with a 20 to 22 miler being long enough of a run, to make it through another 10 to 12 more miles.

Oh well, I think will stick to my long run approach and be careful, and make my long run being every other week and not run real long 2 weeks in a row. I have my first race tomorrow morning - a pesky 5K - which will be within a long run over 20 miles. I normally run some good quality speed work on the track and wave runs, but this training cycle has been mostly long easy runs for my 50K. So I hope my legs still have my higher end speed, and my fast twitch muscles wake up so I can run a good 5K (around 20 minutes)......but is suppose to be a rainy and possibly stormy morning. I am going to slowly run the 5 miles to the race site, with some striders as I get close....that should get everything warmed up.

I have to say I am sooooooooooooo impressed with "our" Boston runners - and Nancy and Dave too - and how many ran very good and smart races. Some flew through - some had to back off due to nagging pains - and then there was Tramps (I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, snicker, smack my X wife after reading your WELL DONE RR.....you are a very good writer and narrator Ya know)

dg......your cute.....and keep that patience up, K. We have all been there - done that before -  with having to take it ez for a while!

Hey Twocat..................what is the status of your running situation right now, as I have missed some things. I know your DW is running a 1/2, but I am wondering about you my tapering Buddie (I imagine you are kicking Tet's tapering butt now)

Geez Carolyn......wishing for Spring to come your way real soon

Holly, how did your DH do with your Kiddo's at his job.....hopefully while you were in Boston, all was well on the home front too

Karin.....you sure are one speedy Lady.....and so humble too, which is nice to see.

Thanks Lou for alllll the great Boston pictures.............everyone loves pictures.

Hope Tammy and Laura have a good 20 miler tomorrow, with a 10K race too (10K race too, right?) Me and Laura still communicate almost everyday (Tammy's GF that I ran the Seattle Marathon with step per step), and she is a Sweetie I Love to stay in contact with.....to bad we are separated by like a million miles

Hoping Jlynne's new Brooks makes her fly for her race Sat

Hey Slo.....I did notice a while back you mentioning some XTerra races in Indiana. I did respond to you, but I don't think you noticed. Most of these races are put on by the DINO series, and I know Brian (can't spell his last name) well, and he puts on some very well prepared and supported races......with some real studs racing (well, not compared to me and you of course) Let me know if you have any of these races in mind, and dates. I am going to compete in our local Endurathon - 1/2 Ironman again this year, and it is a race you should really pencil in when you want to race a 1/2 IM again

Hope everyone has a great Friday.....I love my new lap top computer also!

    TimBo

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way - Run often and run long, but never outrun your Joy of running!

    Tramps

Tim--thank goodness you've got paragraphs now. Good luck on that 50K...and glad you enjoyed the RR.

Carolyn--geez, winter doesn't want to let go!  It'll melt fast, I assume.

Easy 5.3 for me this morning.

I'm signed up for a local 5K tomorrow.  Ha!  Of course, this will be just a fun run.  I'll be lucky to hit MP pace.  But it's a new race and the closest one ever to my house, so I couldn't pass it up.

      Have a great weekend!

      Be safe. Be kind.

      Slo

        Mornin !

Hey tim...good luck getting that office finished. I did see your reply to the Xterra......I really want to do one of these and Indianna has a few to chose from....so does Illinios. The problem with any of them right now is scheduling. It's going to be impossible for me to commit to any of them. I work in a manufacturing plant......food industry....it's constantly changing. I am a "Controls Engineering Specialist"......all of my projects that I have been working on are due for installation and or start-up over the summer months into early fall......Prime race season for these Xterra's. My construction time revolves around weekends when the plant isn't running.....anyway....if I'm able to pull one off this year it'll be a last minute type of thing.

So.......an 8 miler last night.....a quick 4 this morning and now all I have to do is sit back and wait for the forcasted thundershowers.

        TGIF !

        Mr. Chip & Mizz Rizzo

I was reading Timbo's post thinking "something is different here" and the I realized.... paragraphs!!!  Big grin     Nice to see you starting us out today Tim.

Sounds like a fun race tomorrow Tramps ... and it is only 3.1 miles, right?

{{{Enke}}} I hope you can get your energy level up soon.   I know how you feel, but probably not to the same extent.   We'd be great running buddies right now!

{{{Dg}}} You listen to everyone young lady!    When you start back up again, you can run slow with me and Enke okay??   Carolyn claims to be slow too - so maybe we can start our own litle slow runner group.  Big grin

{{{SteveP}}} I hope you are okay for the Tulip Run!   You can always hang with me in the back of the pack.

Rest day for me.  It felt pretty good to get a full nights sleep last night.   This is just to cute not to share with you all:

          Happy  Friday!!!

          Marathon Iowa 2014

            Morning all.

How do you follow such a cute pup?

Lift, step, spin.  Blah, blah, blah.

            lamerunner

Good morning. Headed out for my post-Boston maiden voyage. 5 miles easy in cool and cloudy weather. Leaves are still that baby green color. Ankles are still a bit cranky; leg muscles felt pretty good. I am sure there would be fatigue if I went far or fast but that can wait...

              Maybe a little swim later.

Good  luck Tim on the office set up. That sort of thing always wears  me out!

Good Friday morning everyone. Hope y'all have some great weekend runs and stuff planned.

I want a puppy! They are just too cute, Mary. When will they go to their new families? That must be hard for you. Hey - let me know how you like your new Brooks.

Gotta tell you I'm lovin' the paragraphs, Tim. I can't ever imagine doing a 50K, but it sounds like you're putting a lot of thought and preparation into yours. You'll do great. Tell us more about the second job offer that you didn't want.

It sounds like all our Boston runners are getting back into their normal routines.

Steve - how about some pictures of Noah? How old is he now? Hope that all of your aches and pains are getting better.

Carolyn - that weather forecast is just awful. You shouldn't have to be shoveling snow at the end of April. (hey wait a minute, I live in Wisconsin and we do that too!)

Rest day for me. We're leaving early this afternoon to spend the night in Madison. Should be a good time. The weather forecast is not a good one, but I'm hoping the rain either clears out before the race or holds off 'till after it's over. Temps around 40° sound perfect.

MTA - reading my People magazine yesterday, I saw that Valerie Bertinelli ran the Boston in 5:00 something. I wanted to know what all of you who worked so hard to qualify for it thought about her entry.....

                i'm lovin' it... MM#1949

I see everyone noticed Tim's paragraphs! Good luck on the 5K's Tim and Tramps.

Only thing I've lifted this morning is a cup of coffee.

I was going to walk the dogs but DD2 brought her dog over and all three dogs are playing and chasing each other all over the back yard.

I'm sure Mother Nature is thanking BP for the lovely taste of oil and deisel. Nice Birthday present Sad

                    Good Morning all

Up early thanks to the world's dumbest woodpecker---loves the gutters near the window closest to my bed...gave up and headed out at 6:00 am for 6.6 pretty peppy miles around the neighborhood. Sunny and 45º. Met up with tri-guy neighbor and picked up the pace even more. Fun!

JLynne---Valerie Bertinelli ran for Dana Farber and ran a 2:12 half marathon a few months go. She actually seemed to be low key in all the pre-Boston interviews (Mr. CNYrunner LOVES her so I've heard lots about her) Seems totally cool that she ran on Monday and supported a good cause.

healing vibes to dg, enke and SteveP

I almost thought the daily thread was a race report! Thanks Tim!

                    Marathon Maniac #957

Dg - I keep meaning to call you, but have hardly had time to think the last few days.  On top of catching up at work and home, we're having a dinner party tomorrow.....

Erika – I looked up your video – you look great crossing the finish!

Timbo –  - you should try some of those Nike sportset headphones, that wrap around the back of your head and gently rest in your ears.  As for the 50K training, well, I guess it depends on whether you plan to race it or run it.  For me, this will be a fun race – no goal for speed other than maybe to try to beat last year’s rather casual time.  I think your plan of not going really long two weeks in a row is a good one.  I’m going to play it by ear while I see how my Boston recovery goes.

SteveP – aren’t we do for another Noah picture?

Enke – yay for the most excellent run!  But I totally understand your frustration, too.  I sure hope you are able to get that thyroid issue resolved.

                      {{{Wildchild}}}

                      Trent – welcome!

Mary – I was just going to ask you for another puppy pic!

DS and the kids did very well yesterday.  The county had lots of educational projects set up to learn about recycling and water treatment and such.  DD’s teacher had asked her to write about her day, so DH took pictures, printed them out, and put them in a notebook for DD and she wrote captions for each photo – very kewl!

DH is taking DS to get his cast off today – he is so happy!

5.6 easy-paced miles for me this morning (ave 10:31), plus 50 push-ups (20+20+10).  Other than a little soreness from yesterday’s weighted squats and dead lifts, my legs feel fine.  The big blister on my toe is still sore (and looks really gross), but is healing.

I still haven't gotten to the Boston reports, but I will - I'm just kind of swamped right now with things going on both at work and home.  I'm starting to think planning a dinner party for tomorrow wasn't such a great idea...and my waistline still hasn't recovered from last weekend....

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

                      wildchild

                      Carolyn

Hi TimBo!  I love the paragraphs, too!  If your boss needs an environmental consultant, give me a call! I'm sure a collision center generates quite a bit of hazardous waste.  And you probably have air issues too, if you have a spray booth.  The regulations are super complicated, which keeps consultants like me in business.

Mary, I love the puppy picture!  Which one is that?  I'd love to join the slow running group with you and Enke and dg.  Slow running beats not running, any day!

Karin, geez, you can't even run slow a few days after a PR marathon.  You rock!

We had 3-4" of wet snow overnight and they're predicting another foot before it's over.  Yuck.  I'm at work today, and it's just raining in town.  It's that weird time of year when it seems like I live and work in two different seasons.

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

                        Good Bad & The Monkey

The big excitement here in Nashville is that tomorrow is Country Music Marathon.  28-29 000 half and full marathoners.  I'm doing the full.  And we are all holding are breath as a result of this warning from the National Weather Service...

... MODERATE RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER FOR ALL OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE ON SATURDAY...

A STRONG UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE OUT OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS TODAY AND BRING A CHANCE FOR STRONG THUNDERSTORMS TO THE MID STATE AS EARLY AS LATE TONIGHT. BY EARLY SATURDAY... SOME STORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE... AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE... WITH THE THREAT FOR SEVERE WEATHER CONTINUING THROUGHOUT THE DAY SATURDAY... INTO THE EARLY EVENING. A FEW STORMS WILL HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO PRODUCE LARGE HAIL... DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES. THE SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER HAS PUT THE ENTIRE MID STATE IN A MODERATE RISK FOR SEVERE STORMS.

THIS IS THE STRONGEST STORM SYSTEM TO AFFECT MIDDLE TENNESSEE SO FAR THIS SPRING... AND THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER LOOKS TO BE INCREASINGLY LIKELY... INCLUDING TORNADIC SUPERCELLS.

A MODERATE RISK MEANS THAT THERE IS A 45 PERCENT CHANCE OF A SEVERE WEATHER EVENT (DAMAGING WINDS... LARGE HAIL OR TORNADOES) OCCURRING WITHIN 25 MILES OF ANY GIVEN LOCATION.

yes, thank goodness for paragraphs is right!  Tim, your story you posted at the end of yesterday's daily cracked me up.  Yes, Laura and I will get in our 20 miler tomorrow (she thought we were only doing 19. HA! I told her. If we are doing 19, we might as well go to 20 and jump that hurdle, right?  The plan is to run the 10K course, then run the 10K race (i'm not running it at 10K race pace though although knowing Laura, she will  ), and then run about another 8 afterwards.  Should be a good morning for it too - mid/upper 40's at the start, but clear and dry.

got in a nice 10 mile run yesterday after work. Another great afternoon for a run - mid 60's, sunny. My runner's tan is starting to come back    .

Mary, these pics are NOT helping my puppy yearning. Our dogs are 9 now so getting up there in years for a large breed. Since they mostly stick close to home now (they are outdoor dogs), we figured it would be a good time to get a couple pups who will likely stick close to them. But I think we are going to wait until next summer. We have quite a few things planned for the summer and will be gone often, so next summer we'll devote to sticking closer to home so we can have lots of time to work with the pups and training. I am thinking a lab/husky mix would be a good dog for my new running partners.
