Hey Carol....you're planning a triathalon.......that's great!  Good luck.  To answer your question, I do usually drive to the trails where I run.  There is some good running right out my door and I could (maybe should) do that if I wanted.  But I would need to be wary of the traffic.  The asphalt trails where I usually run is closed to vehicular traffic and I don't have to worry about getting run over.  I just hate when that happens.

Joe...yes, indeed, I'm ready for some FOOTBALL!!   Let the fun begin!

Leslie, somehow I get the feeling that you'd like it if I ran in the lightning!!   And by the way.....don't keep us in suspense....Did you find any sundresses?   I hear that Sears has some really cute Craftsman sundresses.

Anyhoo, me and the missus did 6 this evening.  It was evrything I thought it'd be... and then some.

Quit being so damn serious! When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change. "Ya just gotta let it go." OM

Craftsman Sundresses , Ha!  Nice! Do they come with a lifetime guarantee?

Good Luck Stumpy! Take it wicked easy and have some wicked fun ,EH !!

        10er tonight on the boards.

          Good morning,

Whoa.....lots of great runs by everyone, go Cindy, a tri coming up for Carol, vacations and 5k's, running with dogs, sundresses from Sears, phew.......everyone is so busy with life and still getting it done. Woo, hoo.

A couple of short runs for me. Daughter sick with the flu for a few days, hub has some serious back issues that keeps him pacing the floors at night so haven't had much sleep this week. Job is extremely busy to the point where I may need to go in this Saturday and maybe next Saturday to play "catch up" on some paperwork without any distractions.

          Have a great day everyone.....

Ultra...we know your out there.  Speak to us, Ultra.

Hi Guys!  I have some free time at work this morning-my usual Wed morning clients are on vacation.  One bad part of being a personal trainer is when your clients go on vacation-no work, no pay.  I guess they didn't see the fine print in the contract to take the trainer with them!  And I forgot to get the time spot retainer fee!

I'm doing fine.  I'm in the mega mileage phase of training for my 100 miler-Sept 19-5ish weeks out!  The past 3 weeks have ave 80 miles/week.  This week is a little lighter at 75.  Back-to-back 20+ on the weekends have become the norm.  I've passed Joe in miles for the year-come on Joe, catch up!

Life is busy like usual-the boys have started football practice this week so there's a change in our routine.  Jack won the VT100 last month (has it been that long since I posted anything?  Did I already tell you this?) so he's a man without a plan which is OK since he's busy with work and trying to support my training.  He's looking for a fall ultra.  We've been going through some rough patches...we'll see what happens.

Looks like everyone else is doing well.  Leslie-AR50!  Go for it!  I might look into coming out for that one-I'm starting to entertain the idea that its my turn to come out west for a big race-I do have Western States on my radar and am thinking about putting my name in the hat since it may take years to get in! Carol-a triathlon!  Good luck with that!  I don't have the patience to learn to swim better.  Good luck to everyone else in their training/racing quests.

Have a great day and as usual I'll try to check in more often

Off to drive the kids back to NE (Nebraska) for a bit...catch ya on the flip side

              flatland mountaineer

4 this morn, last one with Dessa. We jumped a deer and the hot pursuit was on until I snatched her up. Yesterday while running with Lynda she chased her first bunny that ended in an arse over teakettle tumble in the ditch with four puppy feet in the air much like Carol's quote. She got up with the 'Wheeerred he go look???"

Hey Kelly glad ya popped in!

Hiya to the rest of ya

                gotta run

The whole world said I shoulda used red but it looked good to Charlene in John Deere Green!!

Yea!  A Kelly sighting!  Count down to the 100-miler.  Woo hoo!  Yeah, come out and do the AR50 with me.  Well, I'd be eating your dust, but at least we could say, "hi."

Hang in there with all the work and sick/aching family members, Jewels.  Deep breaths, deep breaths . . . and then a beer.

Ah, Ev, you know I love you!  Glad you had such a nice run w/Mrs. Ev.

So with the grandkids going home, does this mean Cindy's going to get something of a break now?

Re the sundresses - since I know ya'll are waiting with bated breath, the answer is no.  {sigh} It's tuff not being a teeny bopper anymore.  However, the Craftsman idea . . . . .

Ugh!  My run this morning killed me!  18 miles on the freaking pavement, plus heavy, heavy fog and humidity.  If ever I thought a road marathon sounded like a good idea, I have now been cured of that stupid idea.  I don't know how you guys do it.  Give me dirt roads and trails anytime!  My poor legs feel like someone beat the crap out of them  Plus, I screwed up on my turn around points and had to backtrack a couple of times.  (Yes, I have a Garmin.  Don't ask, just go with it.)

                     18 miles

Seems to be  a popular distance lately, maybe it's my turn. Good going Leslie on toughing it out.

Jewels-hope Hub and DD are feeling better. That's tough with your very busy schedule.Hang in there!

Cindy, have fun in NE ! What marathons would they be?

Carol- with some of the stuff I see people wearing while biking (multi- colored spandex) a swim cap and goggles sound pretty tame!

Jim-that's Great to hear that you two are having so much fun with Dessa! Hope Leslie can forgive me for saying this, but I think a good dog is the best pet ever!

Ev-don't know if anyone ever told you this, but you're a really funny guy. In a good way of course!

Kelly-   *arm tied behind back* screaming "Uncle!Uncle!" Had no doubt you'd be blowing by me. Back to back 20's,

80+ mile weeks ,and 330+ months, you'll be hard for this guy to catch! I will be bumping it up soon though for my Oct marathon.

Another 10er tonight, this one round the reservoir twice. Humidity really makes me feel about 10 years older. Seems to really get me early on, then I kind of get used to it.

Howdy from HOT and HUMID Palm Springs -

Jim - Loved your description of Dessa running!  Especially the head over arse teakettle tumble.

Joe - I'll forgive for the "best pet ever" comment.  Truth be told, if I didn't have my Hub, I'd have a dog. (I'll let you chew on that one for awhile.)  And only 10 miles?!? Suck it up and run another 8!

Been up since 3:00 a.m., got to LAX around 8:40, got some breakfast, drove about 2 hrs to the Cabazon Outlets (Cloumbia Sports Outlet rocks!), now here.  I . . . . am . . . . beat, beat, beat.  That kind of weird feeling you get when you're so frigging tired you're not sure which way's up.  Trying to recharge so we can hit the mean streets of Palm Springs, visit the "Farmers Market," (which has everything under the sun) and get some dinner later.  I may not be getting up as earlier as I had planned to work out in the a.m.

The Columbia Outlet - Stuff is marked down low, low, low, then depending on the color of the markdown sticker, you got an extra 30-50% off stuff.  I bought a pair of cargo shorts and 3 pairs of cargo type pants for about $53 (one pair of $7.  I had to buy them).  I hemmed and hawed over their trail running shoes, but we're going back Sunday on the drive back to LAX, so that'll give me time to think.

Also, when we left the outlet mall, we stopped by a casino for lunch.  When we were done, told the gals I had to put $5 in the nickel slot machine.  My 4th spin of the wheel . . . . . I won $112!!!!!!!!!!   Took my money and promptly left!   More than paid for the clothes I bought.  Yee haw!!

Okay - gotta get ready for the mean streets.  Later!

                            Howdy, Peeps -

Used an elliptical for the first time today.  Was about as exciting as a treadmill.   Spent about 40 min on that, then did another 40 or min with strength training.  I need to find myself a set of 25 lb. dumbbells.  Did some work with those and realized I haven't been pushing myself enough in a couple of strength training areas.  Had the whole place to myself the entire time.

It still freaking hot here, but not as humid as yesterday.  At 6:00, it must've been in the 80s.  At that hour, it was only, oh, about 20+ higher than I'm used to.  I'll be sticking to the fitness center.  Have arranged my schedule so that (hopefully) I'll be able to get a good solid run done on the treadmill tomorrow afternoon.

Okay - Gotta go.  Have a great weekend!
