    Hi everyone,

RCG, a niece's husband (we are visiting them today) has been, and is continuing to go through something similar to what you are experiencing. He was a very competitive triathlete, but has had to back off almost completely. He has been tested for Lymes (has no markers), and has been to a rheumatologist, as well as to several other specialists. As of yet, he has no clear diagnosis. He has a 3-ring binder full of Drs. reports and his notes. He has modified his diet and has stopped eating gluten and drinking wine, and that has helped. It seems pretty clear that he has some kind of an auto-immune disease, but the specific nature of it remains undefined. His symptoms have lessened and occur less often, but are still there. He has also been able to resume some limited working out. He is learning a lot about these issues, is taking control of of his treatment, and is confident that he will get to a resolution. So my advice to you, based on what he has been going through, is to be dogged and focused in your pursuit of the cause of your issues, to stay positive, and we'll hope that you and my niece's husband will both return to good health. If you have any interest, my niece's husband will gladly share what he has learned with you.

In other news, I slept in today, and so have no workout to report. Later this afternoon, we'll be going on to stop #2 on our journey.

    Have a greta Saturday!

I need to bail on my run today due to hubby's seizure last night but I will try to get an ultra walk in in its place if he's up for it.  Nice outside today. I love cooler weather.

DS arrived in town for first time since DD's wedding in 2008

so looks like another ho-hum day of bear watching, fishing

and me trying to keep up with GS while they have fun,

but, little do they know, not as much fun as me

to say nothing of another predicted

            northern lights display tonight..

            .

ps - happy wedding day to mama wildchild.

pps bertha - when is the 24?

Bertha - Hope your DH is okay.

Tet - nice to be able to see DS after so long.

No run for me today (no surprise), just 30 minutes o the bike trainer and about 35 minutes of weights and core.

Poor Max Kitty seemed to be getting better but now has taken a turn for the worse again, vomiting all over the laundry room yesterday and the kitchen floor last night.  Of course, on a holiday weekend the regular vet is closed for the next two days, and the emergency vet is likely to be super expensive.  He doesn't seem to be in any distress at the moment, but I am worried about him, poor guy.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Holly, such a bummer about your knee/hip/whatever else is still bugging you! So aggravating! How old is Max? Abby got another dose of hairball treatment last night and will get some more today. Really seems to help her.

Bertha, you slip something about DH's seizure in there pretty casually so it must be something you're used to, but we are not. Is he ok? A walk can be very therapeutic!

Tet, I'd sure love to see some bear pics... if you can e-mail them to me I can post them. Have fun with your DS, you're having a real family reunion down there! I've heard the northern lights were spectacular this past week, but I haven't seen them yet. Getting sleep has seemed more important, and I can always see them later (I realize most people can't say that...).

Rosie, I sure hope you can get some answers soon. You are too unsinkable to be brought down! Please let us know how you are doing.

Football? Really? It was fun to see the new stadium when I was in Minneapolis in May (wow that seems like a long time ago), not sure it really looks like a viking ship which I heard was the whole idea behind the shape.

I hardly believe our luck, but we're set for a very nice weekend with sunny skies and temps in the upper 60's, maybe 70. I was going to have family over on Monday but the forecast is for rain Monday afternoon, so fine, I'll change it to Sunday. I'm also planning on a 20 mile run on Sunday, so DH has offered to do most of the dinner prep. So that means I'll spend most of today cleaning up the house and some garden work.I've got a LOT of nice potatoes out there, and need to start digging so I'm not doing it all at the last minute (again). I have an easy 6-7 on the plan today. So nice to be able to run again!! (Holly, hang in there, it'll happen!)

He's had seizures for as long as I've known him. 27 years. As a result of a car accident injury when he was a baby. Usually in his sleep. Usually nothing to worry about. But they make him feel wonky after the fact which usually has him scale back the day after in terms of activity. Except on those occasions where he has a race and then he won't because he's A) male 2) an athlete d) super competitive. So I want to make sure if that happens in 2 weeks he doesn't push too hard and give himself another. Just remind me to never register for the same race as him again. I knew better. 😲

                    Holly,

ok this is getting serious. You have been dealing with this way to long. Here are some positive vibes I hope they work.***********

10 easy miles this morning. I am working this weekend so I will get it in when I can. I have to learn that a schedule is not in stone. I have always been so anal about my schedule and now I take what and when I can and hopefully get all the key days in each week.

Hey folks. Looks like a busy Saturday for everyone. I hope the weather is perfect for Carolyn's DD's wedding. And for everyone else who has outdoor activities planned today. It's beautiful here. Green Bay is a madhouse of activity today with all of the Badger/LSU fans here for the football game at Lambeau. Saw the Goodyear blimp on my run this morning, which is a first

RCG, so sorry to hear that you're not recovering as quickly as you like. And you too, Holly. I hope that you can figure out how to fix that wonky knee of yours.  And sorry about your kitty. Do antacids work for cats?!  Sorry for your DH's seizures Lori - you sound so calm about the whole thing. Does he have to take medication of any kind?

Farmers market after the my run this morning. They're already selling pumpkins! Got some corn on the cob, Brussels sprouts, beans, blueberries (which I could get from Erika for free) and garlic. Trying to figure out what to grill for dinner that will not involve having to bother DH who will be busy watching the football game....

                      Have a great Saturday everyone!

                      Marathon Maniac #957

Halllar - thanks for the vibes - I hope they work!

Erika - Max is 13, which is old, but not really that old for a cat. A neighbor had a cat that lived to be 26!  But he doesn't want to eat today, even the special hypo-allergenic venison canned food I got from the vet, which he really loves normally. He is just laying around, not unusual for a cat, but he looks lethargic to me.  If I can't get him to eat or drink by tomorrow, I will likely take him to the emergency vet, at least to get him hydrated until I can get him to the regular vet on Tuesday.

Okay, off to church in a few.  We have been slackers lately and we are overdue for some good preachin'.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Rosie, stay positive and keep asking questions to get this figured out.  What an ordeal you have had. Is the Rocket Scientist still racing as much as he used to? Holly, so sorry that this knee issue is still so bad for you but anxious to see you in Portland. Bertha, your DH's seizures sound scary but it's good he has you to watch over him.  Tomwhite, I need a cheat sheet to keep up with your codes.....

I was awake early this morning so had an early breakfast before my long run.  It took until 7am to feel OK to get out for my long run. I wanted to get out before the winds picked up, but that didn't happen.  A friend of mine put out a water bottle for me at about 3.0 miles which was nice.  I then did a loop past there (1.65) to take advantage of the water stop.  Also tried my first GU the last time past the water.  Not sure that it made any difference to my energy but it didn't make me sick.  I don't seem to run out of energy (must have enough fat reserves). I ended up with 10 miles in 2:00:08, a 11:57 pace with the last 4 miles into the wind. I am happy with that and ready for the half next Sunday

Good luck with your 20 miler tomorrow, Erika.  What a busy day you have, and yes, please post tet's pictures if he can get them sent to you. I miss Alaska.

..nothing takes the place of persistence.....

Rosie - Sure am sorry to hear that you're going through such a rough time.  And not being able to figure it, it's hard to not worry all the time.  You're in my prayers that the docs are able to pinpoint the problem.

Holly - Have you had your knee looked at?  I've been so scarce in here, I don't know what you have or haven't tried.  Poor Max kitty!  You do have to be careful when they're not eating or drinking because it doesn't take much of that for a cat to go downhill fast.  And you're right, 13 isn't that old.  Our Ziggy is 15 and our Fatso lived to 19.5.

Bertha - A neighbor of ours fell a little over a year ago, hit her head hard, and now she has seizures.  A few months ago she had a really bad one and isn't allowed to drive anymore - at least for awhile.  The brain is a mysterious thing.

Enke - Thinking of you and your job search!  Never a fun thing.

10 miles this a.m. at the McKay on legs that toward the end were going, "Wha . . . . ??  What are you doing to us?" I've run 10 miles only one other time all last month and maybe ran 5-6 3 other times.  I have ground to make up . . .

My attorney has decided he wants to run Avenue of the Giants in May, so we're going for it.  I told him I'd try hard not to kill him.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend ~~

Fatozzig, enjoy seeing the lawyer run the Ave of the Giants. Can't wait to see you next month in Portland.

Holly, my heart hurts reading about your slow recovery from this injury. Sorry about the kitty.

Erika, your DH is such a great supporter of your runs.  I want to see pictures of your potatoes harvest.

Bertha, sorry to hear about your husband's seizures. I hope he is OK. Enjoy your runs this weekend.

Tetsujin, how fun to have your DS visiting you guys way up North. We want to see pictures of the bears.

C-R, good to see you posting here. How did the kiddo do on his race?

Rosie, butterfly hugs to you! Sorry your recovery is not as fast as you had hoped.

StarrRuns, look at you , 10 miles...way to go sistahhh.

AS for me, today was my last long run before Portland, you know that 22 miler. I always like to do that distance a month out of my race. It just makes the brain prepare for the challenge ahead. I will be gone next weekend, so running my last loonng run made more sense today. The Easy Pacer dropped me off 22 miles away from home and I had a blast. New route going up and over a mountain pass.

                                Cheers to all.
