Mr. Chip & Mizz Rizzo

Enjoy your 4-day weekend Doug! There is always so much to be done this time of year - I agree! Weather is looking perfect - finally. Sue - My earliest memory is standing in my crib. It was in the center of the room with a twin bed on opposites sides for my much older sisters. This may be one of those false memories that Doug referred to, but I don't think so. By the time I came around - there weren't many photo's taken anymore - you know how it is with the last one!! Wink JLynne and others that are interested - there are more photos and a few short videos on my website: www.rawleypointkennel.com. Hope you enjoy them!! Eyes aren't open enough to really see them yet - I'll post a photo when they are. ~Mary

Good morning, 4 miles for me this morning. 47 degrees in beautiful NW Ohio. Mike

      One day at a time

Jeanne, the seniors at our high school (where DS is a sophomore) just organized a huge food fight, and damaged the curtains on the stage in the cafeteria. The school is going to use money from their senior fund to repair things. The kids got in a lot of trouble! I told DS to keep that in mind in a couple of years. I'm surprised the TV stations don't have a code for schools to use - that's what they do up here, when snow days are called.

Just did a very springy 3 along the river and pushed hard coming back against the wind. It felt really good to step on the gas a bit. It wasn't fast by the standards of some of you guys but for where I am right now it felt wonderful I am going to rant a bit now. Are any of you signed up on LinkedIn? I bet I get a request at least once a week from somebody to "join my network" on LinkedIn. Then others write and ask for a testimonial. I usually don't mind, but today I got one of those "join my network" from a guy I don't even know. I wrote to a couple of my friends who used to work with me at the consulting firm. They don't know him either. I wonder if he's a runner and I only know him by his handle on RA or Kick. Beats me. But I am getting tired of LinkedIn and thinking of deleting my profile. I am still in Aberdeen, WA. I finish here at noon and drive 200 miles to PDX, then fly to SFO to get another flight to DFW. I'll be home about 1 a.m. Long day. Spareribs
Well......you learn something new every day. After my little finger snipping episode of the other day, I thought I should find out what I SHOULD have done rather than the things I did...(I kept trying to clean up the blood that was dripping on the carpet, tried to find my health insurance card, tried to put on a clean shirt while the finger kept spurting blood on each one I pulled out of the closet...etc). So I found this article published in the newspaper that had the title.."Bleeding from a large cut or laceration". Oh good THIS should tell me what I should have done. * Wash the wound thoroughly with water. (yes...yes....I did that) * Place a piece of sterile gauze or clean cloth over the entire wound. (ok......doing real well so far) * If you can, raise the bleeding body part above the level of your child's heart. HUH? Ok.......so I SHOULD have called my son or daughter and said......"Can you measure how far it is from the floor to your heart? I need to stick my finger in the air higher that that". I wonder if it would have worked if I simply had told them to lay down on the floor? Gee......how would I have ever known this if they hadn't printed it?

              What if you don't have a child? I mean, I do but. . . What if I didn't?

Ummmmm......was it me? I have had my profile on LinkedIn for a couple of years now with no problem. However, recently I too have received a sudden surge in people wanting to "join my network" OR......saying they accept my invitation to join theirs. The only problem is, I never invited them. As near as I can tell, LinkedIn has gone to a web crawler that matches names from your email to the membership list on their site and automatically connects them, complete with the sending of invitations to your list AND the list of your friends, and then to your friend's friends list etc. I am with you, it is a pain in the batooster and not something I want to be a part of. The Jogger

AH Teresa, just had a look at your post yesterday, now that is spooky and yes it's normal for some to have bathroom issues after a long run. Count yourself lucky, it's after the run Big grin Mary, the answer is yes I have, plus I was thinking about your mileage target for this year when I was out there today, another wee coincidence. Roy

Good morning friends. What a lovely spring morning and I am stuck indoors all day. I did however fit in a yoga session before work. I found out last night that the Indian Boarding School at the nearby Indian Reservation is organizing a fun run tomorrow as part of their Sunflower festival. I decided right there and then to participate in the run and the events they have scheduled for all day tomorrow as a way to also promote our Autumn Leaf run. aamos, I like your idea of a "fall 09 marathon meet up". What do the rest of you think? Should we create a different thread to facilitate conversation?

                    I Can Go The Distance

Good Morning, Speed day for me. 6 miles w/2x2 miles @ tempo pace (planned 8:30) with 2 min rest in between. My legs were a little tired when I first started. I worked in the yard for 2 hrs yesterday afternoon. They were fine though after a 1 mile wu. 1 mile wu 10:02 2 mile interval 16:47 2 min rest 2 mile interval 16:43 2 min rest 1 mile cd 9:58 Total time for 6 mi 57:48 (9:38/mi) My goal was to do the 2 milers in 17 min each, so I was happy with my times. Have a great day everyone. Bruce

Hi everyone! Happy runs and rests to you all. Bruce, good job on your run! Nice and cool now here for quality runs, isn't it? Spareribs, I got that klatu phrase from Google, so it's not like really know how to spell what that robot said Wink It's all open to interpretation... I've been doing doodley-squat for the past two days, but after work I'll run a 4 miler. Weirdness abounds with the high price of gas. I am seeing "Gas Porn" more often these days. I started to notice this behavior several months ago. Have any of you witnessed this behavior? This is the usual Gas Porn situation: I pull up to a gas pump in my Toyota hatchback econobox. The guy (it's always a guy) at the pump near mine will check out what $/gallon is on my meter, then he looks at the econobox. This OGLING goes on until I'm finished pumping gas (7 or 8 gallons). I could be in a bikini and the guy wouldn't notice because he's that focused on the meter.

Drom, gas porn. Heh, that's funny. PBJ, incredible story on "NO Running allowed." Did you ask why? I'd get in trouble for being persistent in wanting to know the reasons, then arguing how unreasonable they were! Cool on Van Halen, I'd love to see them. I tell my kids the "artists" they listen to now are nothin' and if he wants to hear some guitar playing, turn on Eddie! DH and I go to see Elton John next week, I can't wait! Mary, those puppies are adorable! Almost makes me want one... Erk! No, sorry. We're already talking about what to do when our dog goes... she's 11 1/2 now, and slowing wayyy down. Perch, welcome home! I bet Tory misses you when you're gone. I've got one of those long drives coming up in a couple weeks when we go to Anchorage for first soccer tournament, but ours will be 6-7 hours. Holly, good tempo paces! Now string a few of those together... Tongue I think I lost my Garmin.... Cry Looked all over the house and couldn't find it. Last I used it was in Anchorage on Sunday, so I called the hotel to see if I left it behind and waiting for a call-back. Can't imagine that I'd do that though. I always check the room before I leave and it was empty... think I remember putting it in my suitcase right after the run. Rats!! Used my old Garmin last night. Forgot how inaccurate that thing is! But it does have a HRM (new one doesn't), so I used that last night for my six mile out and back (down and up?) run. Was in the low 140's most of the run, peaked at 180 on the way back up the steepest part. Avg was 159, lower than I thought it would be. Foot felt great yesterday. Ran 6 miles, iced foot last night. Foot hurts this morning. Angry

aamos, I like your idea of a "fall 09 marathon meet up". What do the rest of you think?
Me, too! I doubt DH will want to come to yet another running thing, though. Anyone want to room together? Smile Mary – I didn’t realize that puppies have their eyes closed so long after birth. And our Dexter loves to bury stuff, too. I had previously thought that was just a stereotype, the dog burying the bone, until Dexter kept popping out of my flowerbeds with his dirt-covered chew-toys. Nono – good to hear that your mother is recovering her speech and right-side mobility. Hopefully the rehab will become more comfortable for her soon. Bummer about your trip, but I’m glad your DH survived. Big grin

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

                            Half Fanatic #36

Hello Everyone! I didn't get to run yesterday so I stretched my outing a bit this morning : 10.25 miles in about 1:36:00. First two with DH then, when he turned around, I picked up the pace a bit. Pleasant running conditions, light rain and cool. I'm going to miss DD track meet again, but hopefully DH will make it to the track in time. The mile is always the first event so hard to coordinate with the other kids coming home from school. DD was very nervous about the race this morning, and on top of that we've had plenty of "disagreements" lately so is mad at me ..because I behave like a Mom.. I sure am not looking forward to summer vacation!! Good runs to all! Francesca

                              One day at a time

Francesca, I have the same problem with track meets! The mile is run later in the meet here, though. I'm always trying to figure out when I should get there. Our next meet is tomorrow, and it's at home, so I'll try to get DH to make it. I ran with the group from our local running store today. After my long run, I didn't feel like running too hard, but I did 1 mile x 4 at varying speeds. My running partner and I are so excited that we're not sore at all today! I'm glad she's hanging in there with me, because it makes training so much more fun. The guy from the store that we ran with is also a massage therapist, so I followed DH's instructions and signed up for an hour massage tomorrow. Big grin
