TGIF December 11 Daily runs and stories (Read 438 times)

Mr. Chip & Mizz Rizzo

No run to report, but I do love reading everyone's stories too .....

I went to bed at 8:30 last night with a terrible headache.   I still have a little one this morning, so I guess I won't run this morning as I'd have to do it on the treadmill, and I'd rather not have a repeat of yesterday.   I'm hoping for an outdoor run tomorrow morning.   I am feeling a bit wimpy though after reading about TomS's 13 miles on the TM yesterday.

I have the morning off to take my mom to the specialist today.   I hope we leave with good news and her breathing comfortably out of both nostrils.

JLynne - Your volunteering at the homeless shelter is really wonderful.   Thank you for doing that.

SteveP - does Tag help with the snow shovling too?    Our dogs love to help by caving the side back down onto the driveway and sidewalks.

    TGIF!

Thoughts with you and your Mom, Mary...

21*F out, windy...I've re-newed my hate/hate relationship with the wind chill factor. Time to dust off my $5.00 treadmill and put it to use. I have no shame....I am a wimp in the cold. Don't know how some of you do it (Erika, etal).

      3.5 this morning, easy....29:44.

Same bitter cold here. Ran 2 miles with a tail wind to our favorite bakery for a French baguette for our flight to Florida (and 75+ weather) tomorrow morning. Took the T home. Now, off to a movie-re Orson Welles.
i'm wimping out right now too -- 24 and windy so i'm going shopping instead!!

            Nice thought Deez.

Mary - hopeful that all will be well with your mom.

No run today, but the spin class was full (all 24 cycles!)  Pretty amazing for 6 in the morning on a near zero wind chill day.

Spinnerooni, fizzy lifting and half hour of instant stepperfication.  Spin instructor threatened to play Donic the Donkey next Friday (she only instructs on Friday mornings).  Hee Haw Hee Haw.

Good morning good people - how are you liking this winter weather (well, except you lucky folks down South)?

Mary - good luck with your mom today. Watching our parents age can be really painful sometimes. How are your bottles selling these last few days? Do you get a lot of hits on your website?

Walt -  I wimped out and went to the Y this morning. 7 miles on the treadmill followed with 5 minutes of inclined lunges. I'm training for the Disney half in January and don't even want to think about having to do 12 or 13 milers on a treadmill.

I love reading henruns' posts. You two seem to have such an interesting life.

Deez - after going to the mall last night, I think I'd rather run in cold weather! What a zoo...

The kids brought Will to grandma and grandpa's yesterday after his doctor appointment. He's up to 11 pounds and has turned into a little butterball. Got a picture of him in his little Santa hat.

              Stay warm and stress-free everyone.

              Marathon Maniac #957

                Good Morning!

                Walt - your $5?

Jlynne - I love the avatar!

                Dg - nice wave run!

Deez5boyz - the towel fairy is at your house, too?

Yesterday I overslept because I had not reset the alarm after a power outage.  Today I overslept because, when my DH reset the time on the clock, he set it for PM instead of AM (and I didn’t notice this yesterday).  Oh well, I guess I needed the extra sleep.

Abbreviated workout today anyway, due to a minor pulled muscle in my shoulder.  Yesterday I tripped over the baby-gate we use to gate the dogs in the kitchen when we go to work and went sprawling across the kitchen floor, not hurting the side I landed on but tweaking some strange muscle in the opposite shoulder.  Nothing a little iboprophen can’t keep under control, but I don’t want to be lifting weights on it yet.

2 easy-paced miles on the TM, followed by dumbbell curls, push-ups, lunges, bench step-ups, and stability ball crunches.

Happy Friday!  No tax training tonight.  Grocery shopping instead.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

                  Morning, gang!

Mary - hope all goes well with your Mom's visit to the specialist.  Also hoping your headache clears soon.

Henrun - now that's the way to run in the wind - take public transportation once you have to run into the wind - why didn't I think of that???  Enjoy Florida!!

Denise - you have the best solution of all - skip the run and go shopping - you go girl!

Jlynne - Will and his Santa hat are priceless - thanks for sharing!!

                  {{{{{{{{{Holly's shoulder}}}}}}}} - enjoy the evening off.

dg - how about sharing the recipe for the weird muffins??  I'm always looking for healthy snacks.

I  wimped out as well and ran on the treadmill this morning.  DH took the day off, so I opted to sleep in until 6:00, jumped on the treadmill for an easy 5, and then showered and headed for work.   He's going out of town on Sunday, so I suspect I'll be doing more sleeping in and running at home next week.   The cold snap isn't going to break here any time soon.  Running in the cold isn't that bad, but I don't do both cold and wind unless absolutely necessary.

Good runs and a great weekend to all!

                    Good morning everyone.

Snow and extreme winds kept me off the roads last night, but I learned my lesson about not running outside. 5 miles on the treadmill at the gym, followed by a 3 mile, two hour drive home. I am definitely running outside with the Fleet Feet group tonight.

Just a quick non-run post this morning before I go to do my presentation, then attend a meeting in the afternoon  and then catch my flight back to Wenatchee to then drive home for 2 hours. I am grateful for these speaking engagements that came my way after being "available". It sure helps to pay them bills... and leads me to great places. The view from my hotel room (47th floor at the Westin Hotel) is amazing. Last night the view of the Space Needle and the Sound was amazing.

{{{Sadie}}}} and dad Perch....i bit you Sadie looked very cute with the lipsticks on.

Erika, call home before you start driving home and have then start shoveling for you.

                      HI Theresa.

                      Great new avatar jlynne!

Here is to a great Friday guys! Stay warm!...

work is YELLING at me so just a few things for now before the thread gets too long (although that is a good thing Smile )

Holly, thanks!  I wasn't sure if it really counted.  I was happy that it wasn't as much of a push as it used to be. (I counted laps.  ;-) )

                        And that's what I wondered...

                        Walt, $5.00?

yay, a Baby Will avatar!!!  .. Jlynne, I remember that you do that volunteer work at the homeless shelter regularly.  I think it's wonderful.

Sue, ok I will a little later but fair warning.  these are no way near normal.   ask Holly, my eating habits are a little on the strange side.

cold here too!!   16F. 18 mph winds.   Am going to have to do some serious head adjusting as this winter progresses.  I did about 20 minutes of Fitzgerald core work, then walked about a mile & half with Sadie.   Boy was she happy to get out, she's gotten used to this, & then I didn't get her out yesterday.

more later, I've only skimmed so far.

mta almost forgot the most important part.     Gooooo Rosie!!!!!!!

                          Morning -

Cranium - It took you 2 hrs to drive 3 miles??

Walt - I am assuming the $5 is what it costs you to get into the gym without a membership?

                          JLynne - Sweet avatar!

Denise - You have your priorities all in the right places.

Erika - I just about spit coffee all over my screen with the Equinox comment.  But you now have me thinking . . . we've never been to Alaska.  That's a trip I could get The Hub to agree to.  What time of year is that run?  I don't want to go look at the elevation chart.  I might pass out.

Since I didn't do anything yesterday, I went for 3 easy peasy this a.m. in a steady, cool (but not terribly cold) rain.  Was dressed just about right.

Got my training schedule for the next phase.  Um . . . things are about to get reeeeeal exciting.

Leslie...   I forgot to say congatulations on your PR!!!  & in those winds.   You are amazing.   It would be very cool to have you run the Equinox with Erika.   the dynamic duo.   Maybe Steve could lend you capes.

Craneium, what a drag.   I'm trusting the Fleet Feet group are close to home?

                            Will you wear Yaktrax?

SteveP... speaking of Yaktrax, thanks for the suggestion.   I do have them, but haven't really used them for running.  Used to for walking.   One problem, is the mixed surface... some dry pavement, some snow, some ice, do you think they work under those circumstances?

Mary, I'm thinking about you & your mom...   It's just too bad that she has to go through all of this.  It has to be painful for her.

Henrun, I think that's a great idea too!   ...  I really like it when you share slices of your day.  (ha. baguette. slices. -) )     Enjoy your trip.   I expect that you will!

PBJ you're so much fun.   Spinnerooni?

Jlynne, I was looking at Ilene's intrepid yesterday & noticed that you were running the Disney half.   Are you & Sue going to meet???  Smile

Yikes, Holly, I hope your shoulder is ok.       I overslept yesterday & for the same reason. Well, sort of the same. Our power went out the evening before at about 6.   I had projects half completed, including the bed covered with clothes from the drawers I was sorting. Oh well,   I found enough candles, & washed dishes & folded laundry by candlelight.  I was kind of fun!   Went to bed early.   Power didn't come back on till 5 am, late for me but doable, & in time for COFFEE so all was well.  it tried & failed a couple of times during the night, flashes & booms.   Many don't have power yet so I can't complain.  & I read that the same night a power line went down over I-94, people were stranded for hours.   running out of gas & all.    Makes me think of your drive, Craniium.

I am sitting right across the table from my boss.   think I better shut up & get back to work???

                              Good Morning!

After single digits, running 5 miles in the sunlight in 25 degree/breezy weather yesterday was not bad.   Slowed by some snow (I don't want to fall and break my hip!) but mostly clear paths.  Hope to repeat it today at lunch--DH wants to run after work--he's trying to stay ahead of the 1000 miles/year pace bunny.  I threw the towel into my pace bunny some whiles ago, but I surely can help him (I guess.  It will be dark.  And colder.  And Friday night.)

Will is a brilliant Santa.  His progress is such cheerful news, too.

Am enjoying the tales about teenaged children--I don't think I'd want to work 2 jobs to support someone's Guitar Hero phase, either, Steve.

Holly, yecch, sorry for your spill.  May the shopping gods keep all the non-working folks out of the supermarket this evening (one of my pet peeves--people who don't work who shop or go to the gym at lunch or between 5-6 at night.)

Happy trails to henrun and marj.  (Wonder what they saw at the Orson Wells??)

Last night was the annual party at one of the private firms in town--always a great spread/open bar and fun to visit with friends and colleagues and even State's attys.  The firm consists of 4 guys, so they had an ice sculpture with their 4 faces ala Mt. Rushmore, ,dubbed "Mt. R----more," after the founding partner (his last name starts with an R).

...........................however, just a few days ago, we hired the junior member of the firm.   He'll start next month.

Leslie! Equinox is always the third Saturday in September, so for 2010 it's on September 18. Should be a good time too... when it's much later in the month we can worry about snow at the top. That would be so cool if you guys could do it!! Think about it, ok?    http://www.equinoxmarathon.org/

Holly, how can you do pushups on a sore shoulder? I've tweaked my left shoulder somehow... thought it was from doing planks but could just be a cumulative issue from lots of abuse. Can't do planks now, lat pulldowns and chest flyes even bother it. That's all a large part of my upper body routine so trying to come up with new ideas for Saturday's trip to the gym. (and yes, I bet you needed the sleep)

I'm thinking Walt's $5 goes for a day pass at the gym.

Lots of treadmill runs today! Probably more to come in the days ahead. Rather than thinking how much you hate the treadmill, try thinking how cool it is that you have this tool to help you reach your goals when outdoor running is neither pleasant or safe. That mindset sure changes how I look at it. And believe me, I have to look at it a lot.

Amy, that's funny. GL with the new jr partner.

DH and DS2 are heading out to Anchorage today, probably pulling the kid out of his last class. Taking a soccer friend, too. This is the last group training for the year for the statewide soccer team they're on. Problem is... the trip to Phoenix was canceled for DS2's team, so he's hoping to play up on the U17 team. We've asked to be considered, but no news yet. The good part is I know DS2 is better than more than half the boys on that older team. The bad news is... it might be full already. I hope they find out this weekend for sure before we commit anymore $$ and time to it.

So... I have the weekend pretty much to myself. DS1 will be here, but he's pretty independent (and lazy) so I will pretty much be on my own. I foresee a long workout at the gym tomorrow!  Today I'll try to get a lunchtime workout in, but might have to do last minute errands for DH before they leave. Pool running after work. Ahhhh!

                                12
