Notes

In general, very happy but concerned about the 3 last miles that were a bit of a train wreck. I’ll have to pace more conservatively but I wanted to see what I had today. Felt good from the beginning and by the first mile I was with Mike. Thru Maine and into NH is cool especially through Portsmouth. I knew the pace was starting to pick up around 4 and I just went with it and slowly pulled away from Magic Mike. I knew he would be lingering but my goal was never to beat him. As the pace picked up and I started to roll, the goal changed. I wanted sub 2:30 and by 8 I knew I was going for it and started to bank time. At 12 I had an “oh shit” moment when I looked at overall pace and thought it was current pace. 7:08. Uh oh. Around 15 it got grindy. Weird weather day. Sometimes warm sometimes cold. Sometimes sunny sometimes dark. By 16 it was getting hard but I knew sub 230 was in sight if I could maintain. The last few miles sucked and I was negotiating with myself. By the last mile, I was getting lightheaded and hungry but I was right there. With less than .25, he finally showed up. Mike taped me on the should and said, “let’s go”. He tried to drag me with him and this helped me get to the end but beat me by 5 seconds. When I finished, I was smoked, light headed, and generally a mess. The bus ride to the Ashworth was ugly and then the short walk was worse. It took me a few minutes to get myself back together. In the back of my mind I wanted my result to show I was on track from a pace predictor perspective and I did that. I have some confidence now in going for the BQ and learned some lessons today about pace, and the fact that my knee is going to hold up.

Great race, Steve. Even if you were a dumbass from 6-12.

Mad-Mike

Just keep your eyes on the road next time. You are BQ ready, nice run.

Fro

Oh Yeah - GREAT run. Your best is more than good enough - now go get it....

Egad

Great execution here nonetheless. Ran better than goal pace and you got to use this run as a training tool. You should feel good about your chances at the loaf. Congrats.
