Notes

It was an early morning at the Y on the treadmill and I did a good job for the most part sticking to a 10 mm or so pace as you designed. The first 6 were completed at 59:20, and every mile completed in the first 8 were run BTWN 9:56 and 9:46 with the exception of m6 (9:35) and m7 (9:15). Mile 9 took a little more effort after trudging along (8:53) as did Mile 10 (8:32) but the last Mile I let it rip a little bit @ 7:59 but I really pulled back in the last minute. Overall I felt pretty good and enjoyed the pace. When it gets a little lighter out at 5:30am I’ll start banging these miles outdoors like I do with the lower mileage workouts. The ball of my foot was a little sore but not bad and it didn’t impact my gait or my ability to run in general. The longer slower miles forced me to hit shuffle on the iPod and see what came next. But Thomas Dolby? WTF. Marley’s – High Tide made up for it and then Jay Z at Mile 10 was perfect. I thought it was a good sign when “Long May You Run” came on at the 4.6 mark. People watching at the Y is an interesting way to spend 11 miles on the treadmill. When did the YMCA turn into Walmart?

Ha, I enjoy the the log entry. Like I said, I know these slow miles kill you mentally. But you did the work you needed to do in the three miles, and you didn't beat yourself up so bad that you couln't run tomorrow. And that's what we are going for. Remember that the workout only has to be hard enough to accomplish the intended training/physiological effect - any harder gains you nothing and is just injury risk. Anyway, good effort. Thomas Dolby - Who's watching Me?

Oh, and 5:40? Ouch. Makes it that much more impressive.
