COMMENTS: 1/4 easy, 1/4 push-1:54, 79, 1:53, 78, 1:57, 73, 2:04, 73. Tonight I tried something that I can't fully understand yet, but I'm excited.I pushed pretty hard for the 1st 1/4 but the clock read 79. Last week I held 80 for 4 laps plus 28 feet, so I was very disappointed. Then I started thinking about some emails sent out by CMC in which several people were talking about teaching yourself to run on your toes, instead of slowing yourself by hitting with your heel first. My first thought was that they were all a bit nuts, because I've always believed that you should not try to alter the form God gave you or try to get your leg turn-over to a certain number per quarter, etc. So I started an experiment. I ran the next quarter like I always have for another disappointing 78 second result. For the next quarter I tried to mimic effort, but increase my number of footfalls and run on my toes. I figured that a higher number of strides would force me to go up and down less, improving forward momentum. Anyway, my result for the next quarter was 73, same effort, I believe. I had one more to verify and ran it in 73 also. Now, I need to research this more, but 5 seconds in a quarter (a full lap plus 7 feet) is a lot of difference. I'm not suggesting that my 5:20 last week, would have instantly turned into a 5:00 flat, but something did happen tonight.
