Excellent race. Rich showed up. Spence complained how he's getting slower each week, when I asked him about going sub 20. Lining up for the start, there was talk about sub 20 from Craig who was going to coach Jay D. He offered to coach any of us to break 20 and I said I was in. That was the goal for me tonight. Craig shot ahead way too fast. Ahead of me was Spencer followed by Jay and Craig for the first half mile, I hung with little Jay Beaver myself. By mile 1 I caught up to Jay D, and we were way too fast. Mark B had been behind all of us and surged ahead in the second mile. Jay and I began closing ground on Spencer. Into the second mile, Craig started calling out strategies to Jay. It was a little distracting but helpful overall. I pulled even with Spencer and we pushed each other, with Jay and Craig behind us. Running beside Spencer toward the end of a race is tense. This guy can sprint hard for a good quarter mile. I pulled ahead early, about 2.5 up the slight incline at the gravel pit. Felt very good, smooth stride just building speed. We were picking off a couple folks in that stretch. I just brought it in strong with a little pickup in the last quarter mile. Spencer gave me a break, I think. He was right beind me in the chute. All of us cracked 20, great run with excellent comraderie.
