Notes

First off, note to self: No more marathons without training. Remember this pain you are in. You deserve it.

So we headed up the canyon on the bus at 4:30 or so. Only had about 45 minutes to get everything settled once we got up there. Once the gun went off, Folkerts was gone. He rand a great race all by himself. The rest of us were left to fight it out for second. We had a good pack of 4 of us chasing down the couple of guys strung out ahead of us and were clipping off low 6 min miles pretty consistently and feeling good. Hit 10 miles around 1:00:40. I started to get tired around 12 miles and knew what was in store. Mark and I kept rolling together until the hill at 19. I tried to keep him engaged with me to 20, but could tell he was starting to struggle a bit (as was I). Hit 20 around 2:03 and it was pretty much downhill from there. Just focused on getting from mile marker to mile marker and dodging the half marathoners. Ran around 42 minutes the last 10K and was really happy to see the finish line.

Most pain i have ever been in after a run. The race has been over for 8 hours and i am still struggling. Hopefully a few drinks will get me feeling better. Mark was disappointed with his race and i feel partially responsible because i took him out of his game plan by running with him early. I know he was feeling good and actually started to push the pace from 10-12. He ran really well for the first 19 or so miles, and was only 6 minutes off of his PR.
