Temp 58 Wind 7 mph. Humidity 95%.

Something different. A run/ride biathlon. 5K run with a 17 mile bike. Doing the run leg as part of Team Hoops with Shannon A. aka The Rising Force. Cool, but very muggy and humid with a dense fog. Thought of running on Aquamsi Street is scary enough, but better than being on the bike in this funk.

First mile is basically an 80 foot climb. Split 6:11. Doug A. with me for about 1200 as we gap the rest of the field. (Some back and forth with Zac on his racing handcycle the whole race as he is blasting by me at 25 mph on the declines.)

Mile two is mostly downhill, but into the headwind. Relax, do not fight the wind, and let gravity do the work. Start to feel the effects of the humidity and start gushing sweat around 3K. Zac nearly wipes out a course official. Mile 2 = 6:03 split.

Mile three is a 50/50 mix of incline and declines. No one is going to catch me, so go into "practice strong finish at Corning mode". Third mile split is 5:57. Finish is 0:19 (Garmin 0.06 / 5:42 pace). Tag off to Shannon in the transition area and my day is done. First overall runner. Granted, some are doing both events, but would not have mattered had this been a run only event.

Shannon goes 57:XX on the bike. We are 4th OA and 1st Male Team. (Doug A. and Scott C. are OA Team.) Won a box of cookies. Shannon has never finished this high OA in any race before. That's cool and makes the day worth it. To the victors go the cookies.
