Notes

2017 Codfish Bowl 8k, 3rd / GBTC (of course, most of the guys racing Lone Gull tomorrow).

Expectations were low for this, so although it was a slow time and I was hoping for better (sub 28), wasn't really too surprised. Was out late drinking with Shannon + her coworkers last night, and there was never any doubts that that was a poor decision :) pretty hungover in the morning, but luckily with the 1PM race we had some time to recover. However, was definitely tired and dehydrated, and on top of that the sun came out about 5 minutes before the women's race and it got quite warm. Course was in o.k. shape, pretty muddy on the turns in the Wilderness - I definitely think it ran slow. I guess I ran "smart", since after mile 1 I was only passing people until the final straightaway, but it definitely wasn't a good race. No confidence gained from it, but I still think I'll shoot for ~27:30 at SPAC. I do wonder if I I've overlearned the lesson of going out slow, since once the race stretches out and there aren't as many people to pass I tend to settle too much - maybe would be better served by going a little harder a little earlier and keeping in contact with some faster guys. Not sure, my splits definitely don't indicate that I went out too slow but there are psychological factors to consider!

No doubt my races only get better from here!
