Econo-sensei - konnichi wa, ni hao ma? .

    .

KSA - the gu story made me smile.

What three states'll his sons be running?

    .

Sorry to say it but, if I have anything

to say about it, <<<(ed note: he won't)>>>

but I'm only inviting runner friends to mine

and they'll have to do a barefoot run around

    the block with my son.

    <<<(ed note: right - ha, ha)>>>>

Got past big deadline this morning

that I've been workin' on all week, . . .

just in time for an all day CLE tomorrow.

    I guess any impending CPAP

wouldn't help me stay awake, though.

"Enjoy yourself. Your younger days never come again." 100yo T. Igarashi to me in geta at top of Mt. Fuji (8/2/87)

Deez-  that's horrible about the husband.  No wonder he disappeared.  I have a good friend whose young adult son was busted for child porn and is doing a lot of time in the pen. It's tough.

As for my two a days......It's really not an ideal training plan.  I sort of stumbled into it when I was trying to build up mileage and wasn't getting up early enough to do 5 and 6 mile runs before work.  Especially as I've gotten slower, I just couldn't do it.  I'm older and tired.  Smile   When I got my treadmill 3 years ago or so, I discovered that the short evening runs were a good way to decompress from my day and watch some of the news and still keep my mileage up.  My job, while I love it, can be very stressful and demanding.  I have a lot of responsibility and have to make some big decisions every day.

The training effect probably isn't much, but it's better than sitting on my butt (I have the rest of the evening to do that).  It's just become a good transition for me after work.  I don't get to do it every evening- especially if I'm traveling or in basketball season.  I never turn down a happy hour!  I like to get in about 5 miles a day with something longer (or much longer if I'm training for a marathon) on the weekend.    My intense training and PR days are in the past, so I do what suits me mentally, for fitness and so that I can step up to race preparation when I choose.

Deez - I am sorry for your friend and her family.  They have a tough struggle ahead of them.

Greetings from the Original Rum Bar in the Charlotte airport. Made it safely from LaGuardia (obviously). Eating some jerk spice wings while I wait for my delayed flight to Charleston, WV. Then an hour drive to Huntington.

No run today. Didn't sleep good last night.

^^ The Charlotte airport has decent food!

            Trails are hard!

^^ The Charlotte airport has decent food!

It does, but you may have to walk a long ways to find it.   At one point they had one of those Mongolian grill (huge circular flat-top) where you picked what you wanted and they stir-fried it for you.  tasty, but it wasn't there the last time i went through.   Barbecue place is pretty good, too.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

                Thanks for the insight KSA

Leslie - yes, I can only imagine the nightmare they are beginning!

I ran another 2.2 with Lexi - trying to train her to stay on one side of me, then dropped her back at the house and did another 1.2 at a quicker pace with my freedom

Now to get ready for Holy Thursday mass - I love being involved in our church over this Holy Triduum

                  Scheduled Achilles rest day

geez, Deez! no wonder he disappeared!

Dave59; livin' the high life, as much as airports allow!

Tammy, congrats! I don't know if this would help you, but as an anecdote, I've found that my old body does a lot better with max cushion shoes for most of my miles. I went to Hoka Stinson when I had PF just so I could continue to run while it healed up, and had a hard time going back because they felt so good, and I didn't feel beat up after long runs anymore. Maybe get some super soft shoes as a recovery tool so your leg doesn't get pounded so hard, and work back into your regular shoes as you get better (I'm currently rocking the Skechers GoRun Ultra Road-2; best shoes I've ever had for long road runs)

rocks and such; I never had anyone actually hit me with anything, but I recall a few empty beer bottles and cans when I was in high school. I remember the interview in RW with Frank Shorter in the 70's where he described having a LOT of stuff thrown at him when he was training in NM. I guess I've had stuff tossed in my path, but not AT me, when I've run from my house to the Bay Trail a mile away, a route that takes me past "low cost housing" apartments. I stopped doing that after a bunch of racial epithets were directed at me by the "Manor Boyz" street gang, and just drive to the trail head now.

                  Carolyn

It's always so disheartening to hear about people throwing things or yelling at runners and cyclists.  I've never personally had that happen, but I think Colorado is pretty friendly toward outdoor recreation.

Bummer about your friend's husband, Deez.

RunnerKSA, I'd think that running twice a day would also mean showering twice a day - seems like that would take up extra time!

Weird weather on my 10 mile run this afternoon - when it was sunny I had my jacket off, and when it was windy and snowing I had my jacket on with the hood zipped up to my nose!

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

Bill- how are the Sketchers Ultra  Go Run Ultra  Roads?  Are they as cushioned as Hoka?

Tet-  I forget the 3 states.  I know one was Hawaii.

I take my main shower in the morning before work and then a quick one after the short evening run or before bed.  I'm quick.

Hey y'all, 5+ after work.  Easy pace, included some walking.  I've been babying my right knee a bit this week.

Deez, sorry to read about your friend's husband.

                        Have a great night everyone!

wildchild; that's how I remember CO; but I was up in Park county. Sun, then snow, then hail, then sun, repeat.

KSA; the ultra roads are very cushioned, more so than my Challengers, maybe the same as my old Stinson3 atr, but lower stack height and different fit. A lot of people compared them to the original Clifton, but with much more room in the forefoot. I've never run in Clifton so I don't know. Another old guy pointed me to the Skechers when we were commiserating about Hoka midsoles becoming firmer/harder and there not being many other options for our old joints. Read my thread "Skechers fan club" in gear for more info, and look up the specs. As I said, these are my fav shoes ever for long runs on hard surfaces; lots of comfort/cushion and only 8oz. Can often be found online in the $50-70 range, too. They seem to run a half size big for me, I normally get 10.5 and I get 10 in Skechers. I get maybe 20% fewer miles out of them than Hoka, but for the price, who cares?

Thanks, Bill.  I love to try different shoes, so I'm going to check them out.  I ordered up some Altra Duos and they came today.  I normally like the shoes I get, but I tried these on the treadmill and hated them.  They were supposed to be really cushioned, but I didn't feel like they were.  The bad thing was the sloppy fit and they came up too high on my ankle and dug in.  Back they go!

I'm liking Hoka Arahi right now-  and the Clifton 3 and 4.   Brooks Levitate for shorter runs.

Three miles running with Carol, Camiel, Bob, Jane, and Ralph. Ralph and I stayed with the group for the first two miles and then I slowed down a bit and the group kept going. I told Ralph I knew where I was and he could stay with the group but he stayed with me.  The group ran a different way. Ralph and I walked another mile or so and then got our mugs and walked to Wawa for coffee and the Post.

A beautiful morning. I don't know how to post photos here. Feel free to find photos on my instagram @blbuehrle.

Interesting discussions regarding stress fractures and shoes.  I was reading about the "hop test" for detecting stress fractures. Google it.

I have been running in Saucony Kinvara. I love them.

Took Leon for a walk in the swamp this afternoon. He was dragging due to the heat. Or so I thought. More than half way through the walk? I noticed his collar was on wrong.  I am a dingbat sometimes.

3 miles on the trails after work. so nice out today. upper 60's, but sunny so felt warmer. I love these temps.

yes, the xrays are not necessarily definitive so I won't 100% rule out a stress fx. I'm also not prepared to pay $$$ for an mri. I still have two more long runs prior to my 50K and will definitely listen carefully to what aches, is sore, or is just downright hurting and plan accordingly.
