Are you going to be at Robin's party on Sunday? (Is there no Boston thread here? I haven't been paying enough attention).

Holly - On your race report, you mentioned using Skin Shield for blister prevention. Is that something you get over the counter? I have a tendency to have big blister problems. I've sort of found a solution, but am always looking for something better, easier to use, etc., etc.
Leslie - you can get it at any pharmacy in the first aid section. I think the more well-known brand is New Skin. It's just a little bottle of clear liquid with a paint brush. I put 2 coats on my blister hotspots and let it dry a moment, then put on my socks. It works very well, although I still managed to get blisters in the cuticles under my two 2nd toenails at this last marathon. This is normal for me, though. I tend to lose at least 2 toenails after a marathon, and those middle toes are usually the victems. However the other hot spots, those involving skin surfaces, did great.

There is a Boston thread here in the user groups. Anyway this year my Boston is a bit different from other years in that I am going down the day before and staying at a running friends house that is right on the course. Not sure what is going on yet other than packet pick ups. If not I would love to meet up with some of the group on Monday...which corral are you in? I'm in the first wave, corral 8, Bib # 8390.
Denise, glad to hear you're all recovered and running well! But something's up with your math: "3.2 miles 32:28 9:11 pace" - if the time's correct, that's a 10:09 pace. oooopsBlush that is right but i guess this is what happened - my garmin had me as indoors so the first 3 minutes was my warmup walk and right before i started to run i realized i had no pace........so had to restart and when i downloaded it onto my garmin page i guess those 3 minutes didn't figure in to my overall pace hence the 9:11 - it did when i plugged it in to my RA log and that shows the 10:09 Blush thanks for keeping me honest!Big grin ok -off to swim then will be back to catch up on todays posts!! Happy Wednesday!!

So, I'm almost leaning towards "no goal but to finish" and just let the race come to me as it is - pick up the pace when I feel good, slow it down when I need to, and just savor each moment, rather than thinking "oh, I fell 30 secs behind my goal pace, so now I have to make it up" . . .
I think that's an excellent approach. My goal at my first marathon was "to finish, and with a smile on my face." Truthfully, marathons are a lot more fun when you're not struggling for a time goal. I plan to have that attitude for Seattle as well. let the race come to me, and just HAVE A GREAT TIME! Smile

Carolyn - No, we didn't get to Tasmania. So much country, so little time! We left Sydney as soon as we got there and spent the first 4+ days traveling inland to the Blue Mountains, the Jenola Caves, up to the Warrambungle National Park, then back to Newcastle to stay with some friends for the first weekend. We then flew to Melbourne, immediately left and traveled to the area that was devastated by the fires (horrific), then spent the second week traveling up the coast back to Sydney. Absolutely beautiful areas. Mariposa - I will definitely be posting some pics, but I won't include the entire 400+. Wink Holly - I'll have to try that New Skin. I have a terrible time with blisters on the edges of by big toes and the edges of the balls of both feet. I use these blister patches, but I have to order then via the Internet, and the ones I got recently have a higher moisture content than the last ones and end up making those spots look like they've been soaking in water.

The party is on Sunday, starting at noon -- I bumped the thread about it. I'm in 13, 13942 (just wave one side of the split). I'm debating whether it'd be better to go to corral 1 or 2 of wave 2, but most likely I'll start there. Last year I hung around with a few people at (I think) the first available intersection after the finish line, I think it was the one before the bagcheck buses but don't remember for sure. Don't know where people are meeting this year. There will be a drinking event afterwards, I'd imagine.

Tongue Oops, pushed the wrong button...

6 miles easy for me this evening.

I think it's getting to be time for the first RnR bet/wager (except for whether/not timbo makes it to the monster hills at mile 16) - you give me your watch and run your first marathon to finish by feel and fun and I'll treat you to el pato. Robert's right about the requisite atmosphere, etc. but somehow I think we'll be in the mood. Space Needle, water taxi too.
The duck gives a unique perspective . . . BUT you really have to be in the mood for the duck driver's shenanigans and the goofy music. And the experience can augmented +/- greatly by your fellow passengers.

Yeah, Lou, come on back to corral 15 and keep me company! Big grin And Maine (and anyone else) be very careful of any so-called family meeting area get together after the race. Angry I think I waited around for well over an hour at the appointed spot, and the only one I saw was Holly before she left to go take a shower!! DH was stuck on the trains, and I just wandered around till the Pro found me.
