Hello everyone, just a quick hi!

Vacation schedule is busy, but we are certainly enjoying it!

Fred - my marathon is on November 12.  Nice run!

Mike - nice runs! Good luck on that 5k if you decide to do it!

Damaris - ugh on AQ and hopefully Hershey is OK…

Quick - nice TM run and totals

I ran 4 miles yesterday evening and 6 miles this morning along lake Geneva (Leman lake as the locals call it) - pretty, but just as hot as in PA 😂

Oh, he is. He is just whiny. Especially after hubby took apart the water fountain to wash and he couldn't drink from the water bowl

Vitaly, hope you are enjoying your vacation!

I ran and lifted. I also went to the massage therapist and had a good number of bruising from the cupping, etc.

Damaris - is Hershey a chocolate lab by chance?  Nice job with the running and lifting.

Quick - Nice 5 on the TM.

Vitaly - way to get those miles in, even on vacation.  I'm loving the pictures on Strava.

Fred - DP of 76º, so you threw in an 8 mile run with 500+ gain!!! Nicely done.

I ran a short hill workout that added up to 3 miles with our Special Olympics team.  200m from cone to cone on top of a hill.  In the grass.  The old man shuffle doesn't work so well in the tall grass!  It was exhausting, even at a slow pace.  Afterwards I checked out an old synthetic track around the corner from my house.  I haven't been there in 40 years.  It's in horrible shape, but I ran a 1000m just to try it out and get a little speed in my legs.  I noticed a deer in the middle of the football field, just watching me on my last lap.

Damaris - I guess the old tomcat isn't ready to acknowledge his age yet?  Sorry he kept you up.  Good job on the running & lifting.

Mike - Yeah, grass hills running is a whole different type of effort.  Having a track nearby can be pretty useful.  I have one 1¼ miles from my house and another 2 miles away.  Both have been resurfaced in the past 5 years.  The further one tends to be less crowded, so where I go depends on my mood.

Vitaly - I hope you're enjoying the vacation runs, if if it's no cooler there.

I met Mike for track work this morning.  We got a little break as the DP dropped to 70º and the temp wasn't much higher than that.  8 x 600m with 400m recoveries.  I only owed 3 push-ups this time.  Tired legs (from Sunday's hills run) and warmer weather will serve to keep me from going too fast.

Fred, nice job! And yeah, he still acts like a teenager. And he has been a whiny baby since we got him 16 years ago.

Today I hit 100 miles for July, which makes 7 years of consecutive 100-mile months for me.   There's more than a little bit of luck involved in that.

Nice work and absolutely more than a little luck.  But you're also taking care of your body so that you're able to continue the streak.

Fred - nice work on hitting yet another mark on your 100+ miles per month streak, way to go! And good job on your track workout

Finally we moved to the mountains and it’s cooler here 😆

Damaris - Hershey is big! Nice job on your runs; we are enjoying our vacation, but are constantly on the move 😂

Mike - more pictures to come. I wish it were as easy to post pictures here, but I promise to do that once we are back. Nice hilly workout and track run.

3M easy for me this morning in the mountains. I say ‘easy’, but there was a 200 ft climb and it was anything but easy LOL

Vitaly, that's why I normally don't run on vacation since we walk a ton.

                        I have an RD.

Vitaly - 200' in three miles is a lot.

Rest day for me too, which is just as well.  My mother was hospitalized (again) last night.  This time it was low hemoglobin causing shortness of breath.  They gave her a transfusion, which is what she was likely to have gotten at her scheduled appointment tomorrow.  A trip to the ER is always nerve racking.

Damaris - we walk plenty as well, but it’s all good as I need to burn some calories after all the eating the night before 😂

Fred  - 200 ft climb was just a single hill of 0.36 miles, a real beast(11% grade). How’s your Mom doing? Hope the transfusion helped.

Mike - nice race in tough conditions. Yes, Pat’s races tend to be small and usually are like time trials 😆

You might want to consider a cutback back week to allow your body to rest and absorb all the training you have been doing lately. After that you’ll be fresher and will be able to sustain the pace throughout the race, especially when the temperature drops a bit.

I ran 4.4 miles this morning; 650 feet of total climb made it challenging 😥

Vitaly - Your pictures this morning are breathtaking.  I've always had a thing for Switzerland.  650 ft of climb!  I'll rest today since I drove to the office.  I'll take the advice and cutback a bit.  Two things have gone on since I ran my faster races, I haven't done a serious interval workout in 5-6 weeks and in that same time my gym workouts have been 1-2 per week instead of 4-5 I'd been doing for years.  I think I've underestimated the benefits of the strength and cross training.  And I guess I have to go back to allowing a gym workout to replace a run and not think I have to double up.

Fred - I hope your mother is well.

Vitaly - You're certainly getting your hill work done while you're away.  Nice job.

Mike - I think you did well in your race.  In this weather and in a small field where it can be hard to keep the pace going with nobody around, it's not surprising that your time might be slower than you hoped.  Your age-graded result is still very nice.  If you're running like that now, you'll be doing very nicely in the fall when the weather gets cooler and the races get bigger.

My mother is feeling better, thanks.  It drives my father crazy that she hides and/or denies symptoms and will tell the doctor she's "fine."  He now accompanies her to every appointment.

Mike and I ran our first marathon pace workout of the training cycle.  9 miles with 6 at marathon pace targeting 9:00.  We averaged 9:04, which isn't bad for the first time out and in summer weather.  It's funny, over the last MP mile I was pretty locked in and felt I could keep going (we ran a 9:01 final mile), but as soon as we switched to cool off pace I started feeling really tired.  My final overall mile at an 11:-something pace felt harder than the last MP mile.  There must have been an adrenaline/endorphin/mental component to all that.
